The environment is conducive to both learning and personal development.
I am pursuing Graduate Marine Engineering (GME). Having completed my B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, I chose this course to embark on a career in the sea. The curriculum is extensive, but our faculty members simplify complex concepts, making them easy to understand and learn the training at HIMT equips you with all the necessary skill for a shipboard career.
HIMT enjoy a stellar reputation with major shipping companies such as MOL, Goodwood, Marlow, Marshal, Eastaway, Maersk, MSC, and many more. These companies visit the campus to recruit students, with those having strong academic records gets placed easily even before completion of course. So Placement basically depends on the cadet as the college do its best to get companies then it totally depends on us how we perform in interview. As of now out of 30 students in my batch 8 cadets got placed and more would be placed by the end of the course.
The course fee is around ₹3.95 lakhs , which i believe that well worth it as it covers tuition, boarding and lodging, mess fees, uniform fees, book fees and more. This investment can be recouped during the apprenticeship period alone, HIMT offers one of the most affordable programs among maritime colleges making it a excellent choice for quality training and superior placement opportunity at a lower cost.
Campus life at HIMT is vibrant and full of activities. The day begins with the morning PT around 0530hrs followed by routine clean ship, breakfast, flag hoisting, parade and classes from 0800hrs till 1545hrs then in evening cadets are involved in sports and gym activities dinner is served from 1815hrs to 2000hrs according to respective batches. Shore leaves are permitted on Sundays from 0630hrs to 1700hrs which can we utilized to visit nearby places as Mahabalipuram is close by. We also have a hospital nearby and a duty doctor visit the college daily for 2 hrs.
HIMT College comes highly recommended for those who want to pursue a career in the Merchant Navy. The faculty and staff treat cadets as family ensuring that homesickness is never a issue. The college fasters a sense a sense of camaraderie among students from all over India. In my opinion HIMT College stands out as a premier maritime college in India.
Our Campus has excellent infrastructure facilities with a ship in campus, smart classrooms with air conditioning, world class VR labs, auxiliary machine workshops, neat and clean hostels, swimming pool, advanced electrical labs, football ground, basketball courts, indoor games and many more.
I have pursued GME course under IMEC GME Indian cadet program, I had completed my Btech Mechanical course and joined this course, I wanted to start my merchant Navy career at sea, that's the reason why I chose this course, the syllabus is vast but our faculties teach the concepts in a simplified way so very easy to understand and learn. The training at HIMT makes you aquire all the skills required for the shipboard job.
HIMT has good reputation with major shipping companies like MOL, Goodwood, Marlow, Marshal, Eastaway,Maersk, MSC and many more, the companies visit college frequently and shortlisted students with good academic records are grabbed batch by batch.in my batch out of 40, almost 36 are placed already in various companies. The initial joining period we will be apprentice so the salary is somewhere around 60000 per month, once we become competent officers salary rise from 2 lakhs to 15 lakhs per month based on experience. That's why I chose this field.
The course fee is around 3.95 lakhs , but it's worth it as it's inclusive of your tution fees, boarding and lodging, mess fees, uniform fees, book fees , etc. and this amount can be retrieved in apprenticeship time only. HIMT College has the lowest fees among all other colleges, that's the reason why I chose HIMT, you get quality training at lower fees and better placement opportunities.
To talk about campus life, we have full of activities through out, your day starts with morning pt ,routines, breakfast , parade, flag hoisting, classes from 8 am to 3 pm, then we have sports activities including gym, night dinner starts at 6:15pm and upto 7:30, shore leaves are available only on Sundays and holidays ,you can go out, nearby we have so many beaches and dineout areas as mahabalipuram is nearby , a tourist centre. We have hospitals also nearby, daily one duty doctor visits the college for 2 hours for consultation.
HIMT College is highly recommended if you are choosing a career in merchant Navy. Faculties and staff take care of us like their children. You won't feel home sickness when you are here, also you get to engage with students from all over India. I would say HIMT college is the Excellent Maritime College in India.
Yes, Himt college has all the facilities and equipment. The classrooms are equipped with smart boards. The college do have a swimming pool and gym. There’s a ground of playing cricket football and all.
I am studying BTech me ie marine engineering. Iam in the 3rd year now, academics in this college are quite good compared to other maritime colleges because the faculty in this college has good experience and knowledge.
Placements are very poor in this college, I am studying in 3rd right now, my seniors that is final year batch has only 1 officially placed cadet so the placement is very poor in this college but we can’t say that the placement remains like this it can boost up in the coming years
It costs you around 3lakhs 30 thousand per year and as we all know maritime colleges fee is high so we can’t do anything about it. It think 3lakhs in this college is ok if the placement is good. That’s my opinion
We will have the facilities to do gym, swimming etc. the college is too strict about its rules, so it’s very hard for a casual boy to sustain these rules you have to be tough and overall You’ll have a good environment to stay
College is good but the only thing it has to improve is placements. The placements in this college are very poor compared to other maritime colleges but the degree from this college has good vaule in the market of merchant navy.
