It is the first maritime college in india , so it's an old college . The work shop and other labs are very well maintained . For swimming training they have very good and big pool . Classrooms contains 40 students and they are smart class

The Marine Engineering and Research Institute, now known as Indian Maritime University - Mumbai Port Campus, is India's national and arguably the best institute for the training of marine engineers and polyvalent officers.

There are 120 seats at Marine Engineering and Research Institute, Mumbai for the PGDME entry candidates. In order to take admission for the 1 year post graduation course at MERI, Mumbai candidates need to appear and qualify the All India Based Entrance Exam conducted by reputed international and national shipping organisations on behalf of MERI, Mumbai.
