In Indira Gandhi Institute of Dental Sciences (IGIDS), Ernakulam and has gained immense reputation in the institutions of dental education in Kerala. The admissions are purely based on merit based as per the norms stipulated by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE), Government of Kerala. IGIDS conducts a single undergraduate program, that being Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS), which is a five-year course involving one compulsory rotatory internship. The admissions to IGIDS are based on the score got in the Kerala Engineering Architecture & Medical Examination (KEAM) and the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). That is, candidates need to qualify the NEET first and appear for the KEAM thereafter for admission.
Final admission will then depend on the list of ranks prepared for KEAM according to NEET scores. For the academic year 2025-26, the KEAM examination is to be held from April 24 to April 28, 2025, and will be done wholly online. This examination is a significant criterion for entry into IGIDS. Eligibility criteria for admission to the BDS program at IGIDS is completing the 10+2 or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as compulsory subjects, candidates should also meet the minimum age criteria and fulfill other requirements set down by the Dental Council of India (DCI), and the Government of Kerala.
Application Process
The following are the processes associated with entering IGIDS:
1. Qualify NEET: Aspirants are to first register and qualify for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET).
2. Register for KEAM: The eligible candidates need to proceed to register for the Kerala Engineering Architecture & Medical Examination (KEAM).
3. Attend KEAM: The exam will be conducted for the duration of April 24-28, 2025, in an online mode.
4. KEAM Rank List: A rank list will be compiled as per the NEET scores achieved by candidates who appeared for KEAM.
5. Counselling: Candidates qualifying will convene for counselling based on the rank attained in the KEAM list.
6. Seat Allotment: Allocating seats is conducted by the Commissioner for Entrance Examination (CEE) according to the rank of a candidate and available seats.
7. Document Verification: Admission will entail the submission of all required documents for verification.
Degree wise Admission Process
BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery): The BDS course at IGIDS is a five-year course which includes a compulsory rotatory internship of one year. The institute has current intake of a 100 students for BDS course. The admission process is made based on allotments by the Commissioner for Entrance Examination (CEE), Government of Kerala, from the KEAM Rank list prepared based on NEET score. This is an institute flagship course that aims to produce competent dentists with strong theoretical and practical exposure within the safe realms of dental sciences.
