Lourdes Matha College of Science and Technology (LMCST), Thiruvananthapuram, is a reputed college that offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in engineering, computer applications, and management. The college, which is affiliated to the APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University and approved by AICTE, has a well-established admission process to select deserving candidates for its courses.
The admission procedure in LMCST is most of the times initiated in the period May-June for the August-September beginning academic year. The college provides admissions on the basis of various national as well as state-level entrance examinations, depending upon the course. Undergraduate engineering programs are provided on the basis of the Kerala Engineering Architecture Medical (KEAM) exam held by the Commissioner for Entrance Examination, Government of Kerala.
Eligibility standards vary from one course to another. For B.Tech, the candidate must have passed 10+2 with Physics, Maths, and Chemistry as compulsory subjects. The minimum aggregate of 50% marks in the exam is generally required. For postgraduate courses like MBA and MCA, the candidate must have his/her bachelor's degree in the concerned discipline from a recognized institution.
Application Process
The application process for LMCST varies for various programs:
For B.Tech courses:
1. Qualify in the KEAM examination conducted by the Commissioner for Entrance Examination, Govt. of Kerala.
2. Register under the Centralized Allotment Process (CAP) by the Kerala state government.
3. Choose LMCST and course of choice while going through allotment.
4. If seat is allotted, report to LMCST for document verification and fee payment.
For M.Tech:
1. Do well in the GATE exam.
2. Apply through Centralized Admission Process organized by DTE Kerala for 50% of seats.
3. Apply directly to LMCST for 50% of seats.
4. Provide interviews or additional tests if required by the college.
For MBA program:
1. Appear for CAT/CMAT/KMAT Kerala test.
2. Apply to LMCST along with the score of entrance exam.
3. Go through the selection process, i.e., group discussion and personal interview.
For Ph.D programs:
1. Apply to LMCST directly for the respective doctoral course.
2. Appear for the entrance test and/or interview held by the college.
Degree wise Admission Process
B.Tech: LMCST offers B.Tech programs in Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and Artificial Intelligence. Admission to these programs is based on the performance of the candidate in the KEAM examination. Total seats to all B.Tech programs are 360 seats. The candidates must pass 10+2 with Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry and qualify in the KEAM examination to be eligible.
M.Tech: M.Tech courses are also conducted by the college in Computer Science and Engineering, Applied Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, and Control Systems. Admissions are largely based on GATE scores. Intake for M.Tech programs is 36 seats. 50% of the seats are filled based on the rank list published by the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), and the remaining 50% are filled by the college on merit.
MBA: LMCST runs an MBA programme with cumulative admission of 60 seats. The selection process of MBA includes assigning weightage to CAT/CMAT/KMAT Kerala scores, academic records, group discussion, and personal interview.
MCA: The institute runs an MCA programme of 60 seats. While certain admission details of MCA aren't provided, it's assumable that it would comprise pertinent performance in the entrance exam and academic merit.
Ph.D: LMCST offers Ph.D courses in Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, and Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Admission into these courses normally involves a written test and/or interview.
