Mar Baselios Dental College (MBDC), Thangalam, is among the recently added dental institutions that are recognized by the Dental Council of India (DCI). It is one of the colleges that offer undergraduate and postgraduate programs with a focus on providing quality education and practical training in the area of dentistry. For both undergraduates and postgraduates, admission into MBDC is primarily through merit, which is based on applicants' performance in a national-level entrance examination.
Admission to the BDS course of MBDC is only made possible through NEET at the undergraduate level. NEET is usually conducted once a year for entrance into medical colleges, and application for the same is opened from the first week of February to early March.
MBDC has designed its MDS programs in accordance with NEET MDS, for students willing to pursue further studies under Master of Dental Surgery programs.
Application Process
Though the application process differs according to the course, below is the procedure for Mar Baselios Dental College:
For BDS Program:
1. Appearing for the NEET examination.
2. Qualifying in the NEET with marks exceeding the established cut-off.
3. Applying for admission through counseling thereby centralized by state or central authorities.
4. If a candidate is allotted a seat at MBDC, they should report to the college for document verification and payment of fees.
For MDS Programs:
1. Through NEET MDS, the applicant must sit for the exam.
2. Score above the required cutoff to qualify for NEET MDS.
3. Apply to the centralized counseling process for PG dental courses.
4. Complete the admission formalities at MBDC, including document verification and fee payment, if selected.
Degree-wise Admission Process
BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery): Admission to BDS at MBDC is solely dependent on the student's NEET score. It is a total of 60 students that the institution has been granted approval to offer admission to for one academic year. The requirement for admission is that the students must have completed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as compulsory subjects to qualify. Students should meet the minimum eligibility criteria set down by DCI and NEET.
MDS (Master of Dental Surgery): MBDC has a total of 8 MDS specializations; and it offers limited intake in each of them:
1. MDS Periodontology (3 seats)
2. MDS Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics (3 seats)
3. MDS Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics (3 seats)
4. MDS Oral Medicine and Radiology (3 seats)
5. MDS Pediatric and Preventive Dentistry (3 seats)
6. MDS Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (2 seats)
7. MDS Prosthodontics and Crowns and Bridges (2 seats)
8. MDS Oral Maxillofacial Pathology and Oral Microbiology (not specified)
Any Candidate who appeared for NEET MDS can apply for MDS programs. Candidate must have completed BDS degree from a recognized institution along with fulfilling the eligibility requirements as stated by National Board of Examinations and DCI.
