Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai Admission Process

Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, and is regarded as one of the best centers for cancer treatment and research. The hospital runs various medical programs-super specialty, postgraduate, and diploma courses. Admission to the Tata Memorial Hospital is highly competitive and mainly conducted through national-level entrance examinations. The institute conducts scheduled admissions, with most courses commencing between August and September each year. Deadlines for applications are dependent on the entrance examination for each specified program. Therefore, candidates are advised to check the official website of Tata Memorial Hospital often for timely updates regarding application deadlines, exam dates, and announcement of results.

Admission to postgraduate medical courses (MD/MS) is on the basis of the NEET PG. To get admission to superspecialty courses (DM/M.Ch), the candidates are required to qualify for NEET SS. The institute divides admissions between 50% for the All India Quota and 50% for the State Quota. Eligibility varies from program to program. For the MD/MS programs, a candidate is required to have an MBBS degree that is recognized by the relevant authority, whereas a postgraduate degree in the relevant specialty is required for superspecialty programs. Application Process

Application processes at TMH differ for the respective programs.

For MD/MS programs:

  1. Qualify NEET PG examination.
  2. Register for the All India Quota/State Quota counseling process.

  4. If allotted a seat, report at the hospital for document verification and admission formalities.

For DM/M.Ch programs:

  1. Qualify NEET SS examination.
  2. Apply to the centralized counseling process for superspecialty courses.
  3. During the counseling, select Tata Memorial Hospital and desired superspecialty program.
  4. If selected, report at the hospital for the admission process.

For M.Sc and Advanced Diploma Programs:

  1. Official announcements for applications should be available on the Tata Memorial Hospital website.
  2. Fill out the online application form for the program of choice.
  3. Pay the application fee.
  4. Written test/interview if required.
  5. Admission confirmation in the hospital if selected.

Candidates are advised to refer to the program eligibility criteria and admission requirements. Note that in some cases the Tata Memorial Hospital allocates 25% of the seats for in-house candidates from the Tata Memorial Centre.

Degree-wise admission process

MD: The MD courses at Tata Memorial Hospital are held in Anaesthesiology, Radiotherapy, Radiodiagnosis, Pathology, Nuclear Medicine, Immuno Haematology and Blood Transfusion, Palliative Medicine, and Microbiology. Admission is subject to NEETPG under 50% All India quota and 50% State quota. Total sanctioned intake capacity for these programs is 76 seats.

DM: The institute provides DM in Medical Oncology, Critical Care Medicine, Onco Pathology, Pediatric Oncology, Interventional Radiology, and Gastroenterology. The calls for admission are based on the NEET-SS. Total sanctioned intake of DM programs is 48 seats in six specializations.

M.Ch: Tata Memorial Hospital offers M.Ch. in Surgical Oncology, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Head and Neck Surgery, and Gynaecological Oncology. Admission is according to NEET SS. The amended sanctioned intake is 62 for M.Ch. in 4 areas.

M.Sc: The institute runs M.Sc. in Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging Technology, Clinical Research, Public Health and Epidemiology, and Occupational Therapy in Oncology. Admission to M.Sc programs may consist of a written test followed by an interview. Total sanctioned intake capacity for these M.Sc programs is 30 places in 3 centers.

Advanced Diploma: Tata Memorial Hospital offers Advanced Diplomas in Patient Navigation, Radiotherapy Technology, and Medical Image Technology. This mode of admission varies with respect to these programs. The total intake approved for Advanced Diplomas across six specializations is set at 50.

Documents generally required for admission could include:

  • NEET PG/NEET SS score card (for MD/MS and DM/M.Ch programs)
  • MBBS degree certificate and mark sheets
  • Postgraduate degree certificate and mark sheets (for superspeciality courses)
  • Internship completion certificate
  • Registration certificate from MCI/State Medical Council
  • Caste certificate (if applicable)
  • Any other document as mentioned by the institute.

MSc clinical research is a post graduate degree which will be awarded by the Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI) Deemed university.The course will be conducted at the Tata memorial Centre and will be followed by a mandatory one year internship at the Tata memorial Centre and its outreach centres.The course will commence from 1st October 2021.Selection will be based on the evaluation of performance in written test followed by interview.Only those candidates who score at least 50% marks in the written entrance exam are eligible to be called for interview.A fixed number of candidates (not exceeding 3 times the number of seats)  be called for the interview from those who have scored 50% and above.Five candidate will be selected from the peripheral centres of TMC.The entrance exam will be conducted in mumbai and consists of multiple choice questions.The syllabus for the exam includes basic sciences, clinical research methods and general knowledge.
