Wavoo Wajeeha Women's College of Arts and Science, Thoothukudi Facilities Details: Hostel, Campus, Infrastructure, Library, Canteen

The college has management offers hostel facilities to interested students in a temporary building at Kayalpatnam. This temporary arrangement is only until the full-fledged hostel building is constructed. The temporary hostel facility provides all that is required for a decent living and safety. The hostel is supervised by a Deputy Warden under the guidance of the Principal. The hostel offers nutritious food including both vegetarian and non-vegetarian stuff. Mess charges are fixed on the basis of the dividing system. The hostel is run by the management on a no-profit and no-loss basis. Students who are interested in available hostel facilities are required to submit the filled-in application duly signed by the principal.

The college has a library that offers a rich source of information that is expected to quench the thirst for knowledge of the students and staff. The library, which is located in a spacious hall, houses various books, magazines, periodicals, dailies, and journals that touch upon almost all subjects of relevance under the sun. The ambiance created in the reading room inspires the students and staff to spend quality time updating their knowledge, refreshing their memory, and contributing to the culture of quality. The books which number around 7000 are culled from wide-ranging subjects of academic interests with nearly 22 current journals and 30 magazines both in English and in Tamil. The students and staff enjoy the benefits of having access to the digital library too, which offers free access to the world of knowledge and information to satisfy their academic demands and needs.

The college has an intramural tournament organized within the college. The entire college is divided into five houses namely, Emerald, Diamond, Sapphire, Pearl, and Ruby. The team games like Throw Ball, Kabaddi, Badminton, Cricket, Kho Kho, indoor games like Chess, Carrom, and Track and field events like 100mts, 200mts, 400mts, 800mts, 4x 100mts relay, long jump, javelin, Discuss are conducted to test their talent and sportsmanship.

The college has no hostels, all the students bring their lunch and sometimes breakfast too and eat inside the college. A well-protected shed is provided for that purpose with tables and chairs. Since the college canteen is also nearby, students feel highly comfortable having healthy meals in an airy atmosphere with friends. The canteen is soon to be extended with more facilities to cook and serve favorite fresh food items of the students” choice. The rates of the food items are very moderate and affordable to the students.

The College has well-equipped physics and chemistry labs where students majoring in physics can perform their practical experiments. The chemistry lab has all the chemicals, acids, and minerals required to prepare the gases and the essential solutions for the practical, while the physics lab is furnished with the most up-to-date equipment for the three-year degree programs. Both organic and inorganic components are changed out as and when necessary. 

The College wants all its students to be conversant with modern learning aid. To meet the technological demands of the students and to make the students learn practically the details studied in theory classes, the college has 2 computer laboratories for Computer Science and Information Technology students apart from them, a 3rd laboratory is used for the students studying allied subjects. The computer labs are connected through LAN with high-speed internet facilities and are provided with an air conditioning facility along with the projector facility for ICT enabled teaching environment.

The college has an auditorium facility for events and seminars.

The college Alumnae Association of Wavoo Wajeeha Women’s College is formed with the objective of having continual engagement with the graduates of our college in activities connected to academic and social developments. Every student who passes out of college becomes a member of the Association at the end of their course. Graduates stay in constant touch with their Alma Mater regularly. The Principal of the College, who is also the President of the Alumnae Association briefs out the responsibilities that each out-going student is expected to uphold as a WAJEEHANS. The office bearers of this Association are elected according to the procedure contemplated. 

The college provides the facilities needed to the students and transport is one such facility. The college has a fleet of 16 vehicles to transport nearly 1,500 students and staff to different places far and near and the parents feel secure sending their wards to the college through the college bus. Vehicles are also provided to our students to travel and participate in inter-college activities and Industrial visits.

The college has a health center with a first aid facility for the students.
