Mathematics is a very crucial part of every industry across the globe used in fields like business industry, marketing, engineering, medical field, physics, military, among others. The core mathematics courses across universities provide an insight into scientific and applied mathematics concepts. The course is highly preferred by students interested in analytical and pattern interpretation among the basic theories of mathematics. It equips students with skills related to geometry, analytical, data interpretation, and analysis, among others.
The course not only provides knowledge about core mathematics concepts but also introduces students to other subjects interlinked with mathematics such as bioinformatics, chemical engineering, finance, analytical science, among others. And the curriculum focuses on practical applications of the theories and designing real-life protocols of the concepts taught. As the course influences numerous fields, it has become a rather popular choice among Indian youth.
The mathematics courses are present at all levels, and the admission process is quite similar to all other graduation and post graduation courses. The minimum requirements for admission in Mathematics courses are
For Undergraduate Mathematics Courses
The candidate must have a 10+2 education from the recognised education board. The minimal cut-off might vary different institutes, but the approximated amount is 50 per cent.
Some universities conduct additional entrance exams along with interviews and group discussions, and students should overcome the cut-off released by the university.
Students can also take lateral admission in the universities by crossing the cut-off marks in various national and state-level course-related exams.
For Postgraduate Mathematics Courses
Candidates are required to have a bachelor's degree in the related field completed from a recognised institute.
English and Mathematics should be their major subjects with a minimum aggregate of 50 per cent marks in graduation.
Students might need to clear an additional university level entrance test for admission.
Mathematics Entrance Exams
To get admission in mathematics, students have the option to either give a national/state level exam or university level exam along with the personal interview depending on the institute. The exams conducted for both graduate and postgraduate levels are listed below.

There are two points to be taken into consideration:
Choose JEE Advanced : If you qualify and can secure a good rank, it is a better and more recognized route to IISc, particularly for a competitive program like B.Sc. Mathematics.
Choose JEE Main: If your JEE Main rank is exceptional and meets IISc's competitive cutoffs, this route is also valid but slightly less advantageous compared to JEE Advanced.
Aiming for JEE Advanced is generally the better pathway to maximize your chances at IISc Bangalore.
