NEET 2025: Syllabus | Most Scoring concepts | NEET PYQ's (2015-24)
hi divleen, just NCERT books alone arent sufficient to score good scores, there are many good books out there for the preparation of NEET , i will tell you how did, but bear in mind it all comes to individual preference and it always varies, i used NCERT text books for all subjects along with my coaching institute materials, question banks provided by them, i also used to solve the arihant previous year question papers, i referred concepts of physics by hc verma, op tandon and jd lee for chemistry, biology @ your finger tips. hope this helps , good luck
Refer to a guide for extra information if you want, but mostly keep solving MCQs and sample papers
The examiner sets the question paper in such a way that atleast 60% of the paper should be from NCERT books. One cannot expect to be in the same pattern, but the basic idea is an abstract from NCERT bks.
So it's important to test yourself, with all possible types of framing a question about a particular topic. To improve skills in managing time , practice is needed .For this you'll need problem solving bks, previous year papers, mock tests.
From the institution point of view, they expose him/her to all possible different questions, preparing for the worst, sometimes it may not be relevant to NCERT bk.
There are books with a tag '' based on NCERT'' they cover NCERT
portion + extra content.
My opinion is one cannot completely rely on NCERT bks for NEET but in the last 1-1.5 months strictly restrict your revision to NCERT books

NCERT Lays down the syllabus for me but you definitely need to form some basic concepts which is irrespective of which board , state board of ISC which you are following.
NCERT me tell you about the topic so most important facts regarding those topics in all of physics, chemistry or biology but they might not help you with the pattern of questions which are asked or give you a practice of answering questions admixed on various topics stipulated time.
I would primer really recommend you not only to just Madhav NCERT books but start making notes in separate copies on the three subjects especially from physical chemistry and organic reaction sequences along with metallurgical balancing reactions ,electro magnetism, mechanics in Physics.
Life cycles and other reaction sequences of plant physiology ,some important facts about animal physiology, the recent trends in biotechnology classifications of zoology and details of the organ systems of lower organisms - are also to be remembered and it would be wise if you make a note on them in some copy for revision purpose just before the examinations.
The means table still remain appearing for mock examinations were you up question proportionately on all topics across three subjects and being able to answer them in time bound examinations giving you a good practice of time management, and how to approach the various questions in a manner by which you can answer most of them correctly, leave the ones with him dubious scored the maximum marks without getting substantial negative marking.
Hope this helps,thank you
Hi Divleen Bhatia,
Although NCERT is mandatory to study while preparing for NEET but it is not good to completely relay on NCERT for whole syllabus. You should always have a plenty of other books and notes to conceptualise the things which are of great importance while attempting NEET in the examination room.
It will not only build your confidence but will also save a lot of time which further can be utilised in other questions.
Hope this Info Works
All the Best.
The best books you can refer to are the NCERT,
For biology, refer the following.
1) Trueman's Biology vol 1 and vol 2
2) Dinesh- Objective biology
3) Pradeep publication Biology
4) GRB'S Publication Biology.
For Physics refer to he following books.
1) H.C.Verma - Concepts of Physics.
2) D.C Pandey - Objective Physics.
3) Fundamentals of physics by Walker
4) Problems in Physics by I.E.Irodov
For chemistry you can refer the following books
1) O.P Tandon - Physical Chemistry
2) Morrison and Boyd - Organic Chemistry
3) Modern ABC's of chemistry
4) J.D.Lee Inorganic chemistry
5) Dinesh
Ncerts are mandatory to have, refer the rest of the books and find out which one suits you. I would advice you not to buy all the books but to refer them and see which one is better for you.
In the end it doesn't depend upon which book is better but how good can you understand the concepts
Also, for the general knowledge subscribe magazines, they will be useful.
Hope this helps.
Goodluck!
That is what makes you different from others in making you a topper
Going by the general rule, Finish NCERT books first and ask your professors, where you would be needing additional information.
Don't concentrate more on the theory of Supplementary books in the final phase of your revision. Since Biology is vast, you would want to know about everything but it's not possible and more importantly it's not required.
Atleast 60% of the question paper will be based on NCERT.
Goodluck
Most important for NEET/AIIMS is your NCERT books as these books include basic principles and concepts and provide accurate information.
BUT KEEP IN MIND YOU HAVE TO CLEAR ENTRANCE YOU ARE NOT DOING PhD so dont go by all books mentioned here and there
KEEP NCERT + ONE REFERNCE BOOK + MAXIMUM MCQS PRACTICE = Medical SEAT Apart from this, you can add upon it by following books
Biology -
Truemans Biology Vol. 1 & 2
Objective Biology by Dinesh
Pradeep Publications Biology
Physics -
Concept of physics by H C Verma
Fundamental of Physic by Pradeep
Objective physics by DC Pandey
Chemistry -
Arihant Organic Chemistry
Dinesh Chemistry Inorganic
Physical Chemistry by O P Tandon
Objective NCERT at your fingertips Chemistry by MTG
Hope this helps!....BEST OF LUCK

For subjects like physics, organic chemistry and physical chemistry a reference book for practice and developing concepts is recommended apart from NCERT textbooks, however it is entirely a matter of personal preference.
