Gulbarga University, Gulbarga was established in 1980 under an act of the Karnataka State. Gulbarga University offers education in the fields of Arts, Science, Commerce, Management, Education, Computer Applications, Media, Law and Engineering. There are several colleges that are associated with Gulbarga University consisting of affiliated colleges, constituent colleges and autonomous colleges.  

The Gulbarga University is accredited by the NAAC with a “B” grade and is recognised by UGC and courses are approved by AICTE. The courses at the university are available at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels. 

GU Gulbarga offers courses like B.A, B.Com, B.Sc, B.P.Ed., M.Sc., M.B.A., M.Com., M.C.A  and others. Admission to Gulbarga University is done based on merit of the qualifying examination and scores of entrance examinations like CAT/MAT/ Karnataka PGECET and interviews in accordance with the approved admissions process for the course. Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria of the course are required to appear for the counselling process.

The institute is situated near Kapnoor Gulbarga, Karnataka's Jnana Ganga. Kalaburagi Airport, which is 10.6 kilometres from the campus, is the closest airport to the university. Gulbarga Railway Station, which is 8.2 kilometres distant from the institute, is the one that is closest to it. The Guest House bus stop, which is 800 metres distant from the campus by foot, is the closest bus stop.
