60 MonthsPhD Programme of the Indian Institute of Management Visakhapatnam (IIMV) is a research-intensive doctoral programme aimed at imparting high-quality training in research. IIMV is under the mentorship and guidance of Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB), the acknowledged leader in management education.
IIMV’s PhD programme aims primarily at training prospective scholars to excel in their chosen areas of research through high-quality publications. This programme would also groom scholars to be highly skilled teachers.
The normal duration of the programme is five years, comprising two years of course work, a comprehensive examination and thesis work consisting of a thesis proposal defence; and, a final thesis evaluation and defence.
Collaboration between faculty members and students is the hallmark of the PhD Programme. The cohort of faculty members at IIMV, recruited under the mentorship of IIMB, has a proven track record in research and publishing. This provides a conducive environment for prospective scholars to find research topics from a rich and diverse bouquet of management themes.
IIMV reflects true national character. On the strength of its infrastructural resources and institutional processes (academic and administrative), the Institute attracts faculty and students from across the country. Areas of Specialisation
The PhD programme is offered in four areas: Decision Sciences, Finance & Accounting, Marketing, and Production & Operations Management.
Decision Sciences
Decision Sciences area currently has three full-time faculty members complemented by visiting faculty, all with experience in research and teaching. The current research interests (theoretical and applied) of the faculty members in this area include Statistical Inference, Sequential Analysis, Actuarial Science, Game Theory, Behavioural Studies, Mechanism Design, Forecasting Models, Discrete Optimization Problems, Machine Learning, Network Theory.
The doctoral courses that the area plans to offer include Network Theory and its Applications, Time Series Analysis and Forecasting Models, Combinatorial Optimization, Game Theory, among other area-specific courses.
Finance & Accounting
The finance & Accounting area currently has three full-time faculty members complemented by visiting faculties from leading institutions, all with experience in research and teaching. The current research interests lie in the areas of Capital Markets, Corporate Finance, Corporate Governance, Behavioural Finance, Credit Rating, International Financial Reporting Standards, Decision making in Accounting & Auditing, and the interplay between Accounting and Entrepreneurship.
The Institute is in an advanced stage of expanding its faculty-cohort to diversify its research agenda while being open to the idea of promoting interdisciplinary research in management. The area offers many doctoral-level courses in the core areas of Finance & Accounting research. Participants will have to take basic research methodology courses (quantitative and qualitative) along with area courses like Corporate Finance, Capital Markets & Governance Research, Asset Pricing, Accounting Theory & Empirical Research, and Basic & Advanced Econometrics. Apart from the mandatory area courses, the participants would get a chance to select from a battery of electives being offered from the area and other related areas.
Marketing
The marketing area has three full-time faculty members with teaching, research, and industry experience. The area also hosts experienced visiting faculty from premier institutes. Faculty members’ research interests include brand management, marketing ethics, retailing, digital marketing, marketing analytics, services marketing, marketing communications, and cross-cultural issues in marketing.
Production & Operations Management
The Production & Operations Management area currently has three full-time faculty members complemented by visiting faculty, all with experience in research and teaching. The current research interests of the faculty members in this area include Scheduling, Supply Chain Management, Flexible Manufacturing Systems, Inventory Control, Supply Chain Risk Management, Analytics in Sports, Product Allocation for e-Campaigns, Quality Leadership, Sustainable Supply Chain Management and Global Production Networks among others. The doctoral courses that the area plans to offer include Optimisation Theory, O.R. Applications, Advanced Operations Research, Heuristics in Decision Making, Supply Chain Risk, Game Theory, Supply Chain Management, Operations Strategy, Management of Manufacturing Systems.
