The Department of Humanities Social Sciences is acquainted with the social, economic and ethical implications of scientific research to understand the historical and philosophical dimensions of knowledge production. The degree of this programme will be provided by the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research.

Ph.D. program shall be for a minimum duration of three years, including course work and a maximum of six years. Extension beyond the above limits will be governed by the relevant clauses as stipulated in the Statute/Ordinance of the individual Institution concerned.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants should have an M.A. / M.Sc. / M.Phil / B.Arch / M.Arch degree (minimum 55% for General and OBC category, minimum 50% for SC/ST/PD.) in one or more of the following subjects: Development Studies / Economics / Digital labour platforms and future of work studies / English Literature in the areas of Trauma Studies, Scatology Studies, and Science-in-theatre / Science-in-fiction / Labour Studies / Political Economy / Archaeology / Anthropology / Modern Indian History / Ancient Indian History / Ancient History / History of Politics and Political Thought / Legal History / Social History / Global and South Asian Intellectual History.

Applicants should have a valid national-level qualifying exam such as GATE, UGC (JRF/LS).
