The Department has a comprehensive curriculum that focuses on a variety of engineering materials like metallic alloys, ceramics, polymers, composites. The department has initiated a unified approach in teaching and industry interaction, through semester-long industry internship, and industry-institute interaction week in each semester. Research in the areas like development of new materials, the establishment of structure-property correlations, nanomaterials synthesis, corrosion studies, and tribological studies are actively being taken up by the research scholars and faculty of the department. This department has well-equipped laboratories and highly qualified faculty. In addition, guest faculty are being invited from other institutions and industry to share their experiences and teach specialized topics in different subjects. The laboratories are being constantly upgraded and course curriculum updated to match the changing needs of the present-day industry. The graduates of this department have always been well received by the industry and there is hardly any industrial house in the country where its alumni are not enjoying high positions.
The minimum academic qualification for admission is a pass in the final examination of 10+2 or its equivalent with at least 45% marks in aggregate (40% marks in case of S.C./S.T./PwD), conducted by a recognized Board/University/Council. The detailed 45 procedure and other requirements for admission are specified in the Admission Brochure brought out every year.
Admissions to the B.Tech. programmes are made once a year in July based on rank in JEE- (Main), conducted on an All India level by CBSE.
PEC has almost every necessary infrastructure and facilities, but those mare maintained very poorly, like seimens lab was built with 250Cr budget but now the condition is robots are out of service, and this is the condtion with every lab,Built with very high amount and then not maintained properly, Living spaces are not good and you will have to adjust a lot with both mess and hostels.
I don't know whether it's called legacy or it's the negative side of this college, The moment you enter PEC you will see hundreds of year-old buildings, this same thing is with IIT Roorkee but they had balanced it well by integrating their legacy infra with new and modern architecture, this is where PEC lost in infra, Now I have seen PEC is going on the same path as of IITR and building new hostels, auditoriums, mess, classroom if you join PEC in 2023, You will definitely see a new modern PEC.
Infrastructure is quite old and needs to be rebuilt. The NAB is good but som buildings are too old to be studies in. Hostels are really pathetic. Rooms are so small but the quality of food that the mess delivers isn't bad.
