IJT Kolkata: Admission, Courses, Fees, Placements

The Department of Jute and Fibre Technology is popularly known as the Institute of Jute Technology, IJT Kolkata, a constituent college of the University of Calcutta. This premier institute was started in the year 1951 in Kolkata, West Bengal. This institute is well-known for its specific focal point towards jute and fibre technology education. This institute has been approved by AICTE, New Delhi, to provide good quality technical education. IJT Kolkata has spread over a faculty strength of 8 members and offers 6 courses over 4 degree programs, diversifying in various specializations of the field of textile technology. The institution admits both boys and girls for its programmes.

Different facilities provided in IJT Kolkata aid in boosting the academic experience of all students. It has a well-stocked library with 11,250 volumes, comprising 1,350 titled books. Students can avail 32 national and 10 international subscribed journals and Calcutta University Network e-journals. The campus contains state-of-the-art laboratories for various departments; all these will enable practical exposure in textile technology. Student welfare is also cared for by the presence of a health center that provides first-aid services. Added to this are an auditorium for events and seminars, a canteen that provides refreshments, and a parking facility for staff and students. Sports facilities and infrastructure in IT further complement the campus life.

The institute offers a broad variety of programs in textile technology. The different full-time programs include B.Tech in Jute and Fibre Technology, B.Tech in Textile Technology, M.Tech in Technical Textiles, M.Tech in Textile Technology, Ph.D. in Textile Technology, and Postgraduate Diploma in Jute Technology and Management. 

The mode of admission to different programmes at IJT, Kolkata, is different. For instance, in the case of B.Tech programmes, admission is made through WBJEE conducted by the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations Board. This examination serves as a screening process for the admission-seeking students. All M.Tech programs, more particularly Technical Textiles, consider scores of Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering.
