    College Infrastructure

My college has a well built infrastructure often well maintained. Our building has all the required labs provided they are nicely moderated as per student terms but they lack in a well maintained canteen which needs some serious attention and is way behind in providing sports facilities to students due to lack of space.

    Academics

Quality of teaching is more or less average. Curriculum - Regularly updated based on the most recent and relevant syllabi. Throw of Speech- Poor to average throw of speech as the teachers are more often late to the class and with stipulated time period and short semester time their teaching just doesn't fit the cup.

    Placements

As per placements our college stands out as the best in the city in private category with an average package racing for 4.8LPA. Placement Percentage - 100% B.Tech Category Highest Package - 72LP Placement process - Taken care by the Institute Placement Cell UEM, Kolkata

    Value for Money

Course Fee - ₹95000/Sem This rounds to about ₹760000 which with miscellaneous costs rounds to over 8Lakh This I guess is worth the payment we make.

    Good education poor college life.

    College Infrastructure

Infrastructure of IEM, kolkata is very simple with simple and easy to remember structure of the classes halls and staffroom. There is no campus at all in which we can enjoy and students have no freedom in the campus building in any sense.

    Academics

The academic curriculum in the college is very advanced and well designed for the better understanding of the students. The professors and officials are very professional and are very educated which makes the academic progress better.

    Placements

The placements which are being provided by the college are very good. They always provide mock test, mock exams to prepare students for the big companies with great packages that are coming in the college. IEM has the biggest recruitment drive among all the private colleges

My college experience was okayish to good.

    College Infrastructure

The infrastructure of the college is not so good, okayish. The college does not have a big campus. Even the chairs are not proper. It becomes difficult for the students to sit and write. But on the positive side, the college has good labs and provides AI based kits to students like Arduino.

    Academics

The college offers undergraduate and post graduate courses in the field of management, engineering and computer applications. The faculty is really good and it provides a strong base to the academics. The college focuses a lot on the academic subjects and takes exams back to back which improves the grasp of the students on the subject.

    Placements

The college provides good placements. Compared to other colleges in west bengal, IEM does provide good placements. For CSE, IT and aligned companies, IEM provides good placements. Not everyone gets good package but yes those with good skills gets good package.

    Value for Money

The fees for btech per year is around 1.8 lakhs which is totally worthy. The fees for IEM varies for Btech, MBA, BCA. One positive point is that the campus is ragging free and the seniors and other students are very friendly. Its more like a school

    Campus Life

The campus life in this college is okayish. The college has many clubs like dance club, music club, humour club and many more extra curricular activities. The students are good, friendly and well behaved

    College Infrastructure

My college has a good infrastructure in terms of institutional laboratories. My college has no campus as the college management is divided and has separate building infrastructure which is one thing any student will miss in the college.

    Academics

The academics in my college well dedicated and prepared in terms of syllabus, knowledge as well as in terms of placement. My college has a complete package of knowledge of the courses which are taught here.

    Placements

The placement in my college is not doing that well as in 2025. The packages given by the companies are good but the recruitment is not high in comparison to the previous year’s still our college placement package are better than most private colleges in kolkata.

    Value for Money

Our college is slightly expensive than other private colleges still the academics, cultural events, placement and many other factors cope up the expense of the college resulting in a good value-for-money.

    Campus Life

The campus life in our college is not that good as there is no campus whatsoever in the college premises as there are multiple building in multiple location dividing the curriculum. Only places for gatherings are the roof , canteen and classrooms.

    Others

My college IEM, kolkata with some flaws is still the best private college in west bengal.

The college building has all the amenities related to engineering. It would have been better if the campus was a bit bigger so that the students could have some space for extra curricular activities and to play around

    Academics

Overall good experience , The teachers are helpful and there is lot of different competitions and opportunities to learn and acquire new knowledge and skills through out the span of 4 years. The campus have a good library

    Placements

100% placement : yes that's what the college strive to deliver and they almost always do . At the ends it almost turns out the half of the students have more than 2 placement offers and they have the choice to choose the company

Have a question related to IEM Kolkata ?

    Dear Ritham

Based on your information it seems challenging to secure admission to IEM Salt Lake with a JEE Main rank of 48177 in the OBC-NCL category for CSE or CSE specialization. Cutoffs for top institutions can be quite competitive, and it's important to check the specific cutoff ranks for the desired course and category.

Would you like help exploring other options or institutions that might be a good fit for your rank using College predictor

    Thanks.

Yes, mathematics is required for BCA . To be eligible for BCA , candidates must have passed class 12th with at least 60% marks  with English and mathematics/ computer science/ computer applications/information practice/ statistics/ basic science/  Business economics with business mathematics/  Business mathematics as a subject in qualifying examination.

The admission is based on the entrance exam score.

Well in 1st round of counselling I got Nsec , cse branch my rank is 11K , shall I join it or wait for other rounds for higher preference like IEM , Heritage, Techno main saltlake, Kgec , Jgec , in all I gave cse/IT/ece preference????

    Hello,

To get a clearer picture, let us consider both the cases :

    • Joining NSEC Now:

      • You have secured a seat in CSE, which is a preferred branch.
      • If you are okay with NSEC's reputation, placements, and facilities, it can be a safe option.
    • Waiting for Other Rounds:

      • You may get a chance in higher preference colleges with better reputations and placement records.
      • There is a risk involved; if you wait and don't get a better option, you might miss out on NSEC as well.

Now based on your situation, my recommendations are :-

    • Research Thoroughly: Look at the latest placement records, campus facilities, and faculty of NSEC and compare them with your higher preference colleges.
    • Counselling Trends: Check previous years' counselling trends to gauge the likelihood of getting a seat in the next rounds at your preferred colleges.
    • Consult with Seniors/Alumni: Talk to current students or alumni of NSEC and your preferred colleges to get a real-world perspective on academics, placements, and campus life.

Based on your research and personal preferences, make an informed decision. If you are confident about getting a seat in one of your higher preference colleges in the next rounds, it might be worth waiting. Otherwise, securing a seat in CSE at NSEC could be a prudent choice.

    Best of luck!
