The undergraduate, postgraduate, and Ph.D. studies in agricultural science are made available by the faculty of agriculture of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K) at Srinagar. The Faculty of Agriculture at SKUAST-K is an admission process that looks to recruit the best and most devoted talents within this sphere of agriculture. It offers several courses at study levels, namely B.Sc. Agriculture (Hons), M.Sc. in their various specializations and Ph.D. under diverse heads of agronomy.

 Postgraduate programs include M.Sc. degrees in Agronomy, Agricultural Extension and Communication, Entomology, Genetics and Plant Breeding, Microbiology, Plant Pathology, Seed Science and Technology, Soil Science, and Agricultural Economics. The Ph.D. programs are diversified with specializations like Agriculture, Genetics and Plant Breeding, Seed Science and Technology, Agronomy, Entomology, Horticulture, Agricultural Economics and Statistics, Soil Science, Microbiology, and Agricultural Extension Communication.

Application Process

The application process for admission to the Faculty of Agriculture, SKUAST-K, typically involves the following steps:

1. Notification: The university releases an admission notification on its official website announcing the commencement of the application process for various programs.

2. Online Application: Application forms are also available online through the university website. The online application form has to be carefully filled with authentic information, and every document that the applicant is asked to upload will be done at his discretion and on his own.

3. Application Fee: Application fees are also collected. The fees differ according to the program of study and also vary according to the category.

4. Entrance Test: Most programs demand the appearance of relevant entrance tests. The nature of the test might differ from program to program, such as state level or national-level tests for UG and PG courses.

5. Merit List: A merit list is prepared according to the performance in the entrance test and the other eligibility criteria set by the university, and it is uploaded on the university website.

6. Document Verification: All the selected candidates are invited for document verification. All original documents along with their photocopies as mentioned in the admission notification should be brought.

7. Counseling and Seat Allotment: The selected candidates undergo counseling process for seat allotment. Counseling is conducted on the basis of merit and choice of the students.

8. Fee Payment: Candidates have to pay the fee, as determined, within the stipulated time after the allotment of seats, for the confirmation of admission.

9. Admission: After completion of all the above procedures, candidates become eligible for admission to their respective courses.

Degree wise Admission Process

B.Sc. Agriculture (Hons): Intake is of 119 for four years. Qualified students who passed 10+2 with a combination of subjects as Physics, Chemistry and Biology/ Mathematics, can apply for the course. Admission would normally be through scores in relevant entrance test, dates of which not available.

M.Sc. Programmes: The Faculty offers various M.Sc. programs in specialized areas of agriculture. These include Agronomy, Agricultural Extension and Communication, Entomology, Genetics and Plant Breeding, Microbiology, Plant Pathology, Seed Science and Technology, Soil Science, and Agricultural Economics. Generally, admission to the programmes is done based on the performance of the candidate in the bachelor's degree and a relevant entrance examination.

Ph.D. Programs: The Faculty offers doctorate programs in several fields of agriculture. The programs include but are not limited to Agriculture, Genetics and Plant Breeding, Seed Science and Technology, Agronomy, Entomology, Horticulture, Agricultural Economics and Statistics, Soil Science, Microbiology, and Agricultural Extension Communication. Ph.D. admission is mostly by master's degree qualification in the related field and might involve an entrance test or an interview.

 Mostly required documents are:

  • Mark sheets and certificate of 10th and 12th standard
  • Graduation mark sheets and degree certificate for postgraduate and Ph.D
  • Valid score card of the entrance examination relating to course
  • Category certificate as applicable
  • Domicile certificate
  • Recent passport size photographs
  • Any other document as specified in the admission notification
