Muniyal Institute of Ayurveda Medical Sciences, Manipal Admission Process

Muniyal Institute of Ayurveda Medical Sciences, Manipal is one of the most prominent institutes offering a range of programs in Ayurvedic medicine. MIMS follows a stringent admission process in order to enroll the most deserving candidates into the various programs available, such as Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral degrees in Ayurvedic medicine.

The institute primarily offers admissions based on national-level entrance examinations. Undergraduate programs like Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) are admitted based on the scores of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test. Postgraduate admission for MD and MS programs are based on scores of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test for Post Graduate (NEET PG).

The institute allows for an intake of 100 students in the BAMS program, which is considered to be its flagship course. Selection is based purely on merit and is ensured through the intake of only those who are considered most qualified to pursue the course.

The academic session at MIMS usually starts during the months of August-September and the admission usually starts a couple of months earlier. Candidates must refer to the official website of the institute along with the particular examination authority in order to identify the dates for application submission, entrance exams, and result declaration.

Application Process

Application Process for Muniyal Institute of Ayurveda Medical Sciences: The application process differs with the programme:

For BAMS Programme:

  1. Clear the NEET examination conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
  2. Apply through the counseling process as per the state or central counseling authorities.
  3. While applying for the counseling process, choose MIMS as your institute.
  4. If a seat is allotted to you, then report to the institute for the document verification and other admission formalities.

For MD/MS Programs:

  1. Qualify NEET PG
  2. Apply for the counseling process as notified by the respective authorities.
  3. For counseling, choose MIMS and the specialization
  4. If selected, apply at the institute level.

The documents needed for admission are:

  • Neet/ Neet PG score card
  • 10th and 12th standard mark sheets and certificates
  • BAMS degree certificate and mark sheets, if applying for PG courses
  • Transfer certificate
  • Migration certificate, if applicable
  • Caste certificate (if applicable)
  •  Recent passport size photographs
  •  Any other document(s) as called for by the institute or counseling authority

Entrance exam score will be the primary consideration for all programmes. The entrance examination scores (NEET for BAMS, and NEET PG for MD/MS), reservation policies shall follow the norm of the respective Governments.

Degree-wise Admission Process

BAMS: The Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) is the primary undergraduate program offered at MIMS. Admission to this program is based on the candidate's performance in the NEET examination. The institute has an approved intake of 100 students for this course. The selection process is purely merit-based, considering the NEET scores of the applicants.

MD Programs: MIMS offers several MD (Doctor of Medicine) programs in Ayurveda, including:

  1. MD Rasashastra and Bhaishajya Kalpana (9 seats)
  2. MD Dravyaguna (5 seats)
  3. MD Kayachikitsa (5 seats)
  4. MD Panchakarma (5 seats)

All the MD courses, the admission process is merit-based i.e. the percentage of marks scored in the BAMS examination. Qualification in the NEET PG is also a must for all candidates.

MS Program: The institute provides MS (Master of Surgery) in Shalya Tantra with 5 seats. The admission process for this program is also merit-based, which takes into account the percentage of marks scored in the BAMS examination and NEET PG scores.

PhD Programs: MIMS offers doctoral programs in the following specializations:

  1. PhD Kayachikitsa
  2. PhD Shalya Tantra
  3. PhD Rasashastra and Bhaishajya Kalpana
