IISER Bhopal has started a 4 year BS programme in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science [EECS] from 2017 onwards. This is a unique programme in the sense that it exposes the students to basic concepts of both Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, thereby making them better prepared to take on diverse roles in the industry and academia. This is in recognition of the emerging trend in which several aspects of Computer Science are finding increasing use in Electrical Engineering, and vice versa.

In the 1st year, all students admitted into the BS programme in Engineering Sciences at IISER Bhopal will follow a common curriculum. The 2nd year (pre-Major) curriculum of the EECS programme would consist of 9/10 credits of compulsory courses in each semester, which will expose the students to various concepts related to Electronics, Signal Processing and Computer Science. Taking open electives from other disciplines can fulfil the remaining credit requirements of 2nd year.

At the end of two years, students will have the option to choose the EECS programme for their Major based on their overall academic performance at IISER Bhopal. The 3rd and 4th years will largely be focussed on doing compulsory theory and laboratory courses covering the basic concepts of EECS, advanced departmental electives, open electives and a project in the 8th semester.
