72 MonthsThe academic programme leading to the PhD degree is broad based and involves a minimum course credit requirement, comprehensive examination, synopsis seminar and thesis submission. The Institute also encourages research in interdisciplinary areas through a system of joint supervision and interdepartmental group activities. The presence of highly motivated research oriented faculty members provides excellent opportunities for such programmes. The Institute undertakes sponsored research and development projects from industrial and other organizations in public as well as private sector.
Master's or equivalent degree in Physics or relevant subject / B. Tech. in Engineering Physics with First Class (6.5 grades point out of 10) or 60% marks (55% marks for SC/ST) or MTech in relevant areas
Candidates meeting above requirement must also fulfill one of the following qualification with valid certificate:
a) GATE
b) UGC/CSIR-NET(JRF)
c) DST-INSPIRE Fellowship
Admissions are done on the basis of qualifying exams, academic record and personal interview conducted by the department
