Chikkaballapura Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS) is a government medical college located at Chikkaballapur in the state of Karnataka. The institution was initiated to impart good quality medical education and medical care facilities to the area. CIMS has a rigorous admission process according to national standards of medical education in India.
The primary admission process at CIMS is done through the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). This is the sole entrance test held for medical colleges in India. The test is a uniform test that provides an assurance that only the most qualified candidates are chosen to pursue the MBBS course.
They should have completed 10+2 with the mandatory subjects of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. The required percentage varies but preferably, one must have a good record at the academic level for the science subjects. Age restriction and any special requirements are according to the instructions prescribed by the National Medical Commission (NMC), the body which has licensed CIMS.
The admission to CIMS is done on the basis of NEET scores. The entrance test is held in May every year. The test examines the candidates on the topics of Physics, Chemistry and Biology at the 10+2 level. Candidates must prepare thoroughly for all the three sections of the NEET as seats in government medical colleges such as CIMS are usually highly competitive.
Application Process
Admission to Chikkaballapura Institute of Medical Sciences is through the same method as other government medical colleges in Karnataka:
1. Take the NEET exam: First of all, you will need to clear the NEET exam held by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
2. NEET Result and All India Rank Candidates can find out their All India Rank (AIR) after the NEET results are published, which will be utilized in the counseling procedure.
3. Registration for Karnataka NEET counselling: Candidates need to register for the Karnataka NEET counselling procedure, typically organized by the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA).
4. Document Verification – The documents will have to be produced by the candidates for verification. The documents typically consist of NEET score card, 10+2 mark sheets, domicile certificate (if applicable), category certificates (if applicable), and other documents as directed by the counseling authority.
5. Choice filling: Candidates fill their choice of college and courses during counseling.
6. Allocation of Seats: Seats will be allocated to candidates in various medical colleges including CIMS based on their NEET rank, category and seat availability.
7. Reporting to College: In case a seat in CIMS is offered, candidates will be required to report at the institute within the given timeframe along with original documents and fees as applicable.
Degree wise Admission Process
MBBS: The MBBS course is the main course provided at the Chikkaballapura Institute of Medical Sciences. It is a six-year full-time course with one year of rotatory internship which is compulsory. The institute has an approved intake of 100 students for the MBBS course, thus having a good student-faculty ratio. The MBBS course is merit-based. Admission to the MBBS program is merit-based in the NEET exam and then counseling.
