The infrastructure of the MA English dept is quite adequate. It provides the latest audio-visual aid for creative writing enhancements as well. The rooms are air-conditioned and very well-lit. The desks are comfortable and the rooms have naturally good acoustics which provides a good auditory experience from the lecturers without much electronic assistance. Since the building is from colonial times, drastic changes in infrastructure might have been difficult
The academic environment of Lady Brabourne College is quite strict and competitive. The students are expected to have a good command of the subject matter and ancillary topics, good communication skills, and a curious mind. The classrooms regularly engage in parleys as a part of the learning process and from the very early stage of admission, certain good conduct and etiquette are also expected from them. The classroom environment is quite cutthroat, even in humanities departments which results in the fashioning of very competent and professionally adapt individuals.
Since it is an academic institution, and not a technical institution the level of placement cannot be matched with those of other technical colleges. Thus I have to rate this section quite poorly. However it does not signify that they do not produce adequate individuals: nearly 60% of humanities students pass NET exam every year
The institute is state government-aided and thus highly subsidized in tuition fees, hostel lodgings, and food costs. an average MA student shall spend a total amount of 32000 (2018 data) for the entire four-semester course. The amount of tuition fees and the high academic standard of the college has attracted talented young ladies from different states from all different backgrounds.
The answer depends on the individual. If someone wants a very exciting, fun-loving campus life, this is not the college for them. It is for the ladies who love a controlled and disciplined environment. There are many creative pathways for students in the college to express themselves: cultural festivals, modeling hunts, dramatics, sports, etc. However, campus life decidedly remains highly restricted and demure. It is not a fun party loving space but rather a place of serious education and professionalism
I have come across many erudite pupils and professors alike. I have had the great opportunity to work with them on my dissertations and term papers. They outsource great brains from other reputed universities as well. They are known to have unique academic outlook and readily include curriculums that are outside the syllabus but are very enriching to it.
The college was built long ago and thus has a British outlook. The facilities of the college are, however, not up-to-date. The classrooms are not really equipped with the latest infrastructure and have old-style tables and chairs. The library is great, however, the Wi-Fi does not work. The living spaces were not really that clean.
The faculties were absolutely great. The sessions were very interactive. The professors would really intrigue you and be very interested in your subject. The teaching was in-depth and exploratory. The curriculum was good as well; the genres were mixed so that students had an idea of everything. This is great for someone who wants to teach in the future.
The placements are really average here; there were literally no companies with a decent package for placement. The average would be around 1L–3L. The subjects were, however, subjective and research-based, so related companies were not visiting the campus as well.
The quality of teaching is great here. The fee is very minimal since it is a government college. The canteens are also very affordable. Overall, you have to spend roughly five to six thousand, including food and travelling.
There is not really much to do on the campus. There are lots of trees in the campus and a cute dog to always keep the students entertained. There are no such festivals or entertainment options within the college. Some of the staff are good and very helpful. There is a medical college just beside the college, so emergencies are well handled.
Lady Brabourne College is KNOWN for the Microbio and Economics departments and very rightfully so. The labs have adequate machines. Most of the classrooms have AC and projectors. Free Wifi is accessible. Hostel providence for students from distant places. 3 canteens with various choices(all of them are nice). Lovely fests and events too.
Would not recommend statistics department. It is understaffed with not very good staff. Microbiology and Economics have the best teachers. Quality teaching and very helpful staff. The teachers are updated with all changes, if any.
Placements i believe are there for selected top students only who have the average cgpa of 9. Otherwise there's a career placement help cell which is approachable and helpful. Mostly students go for post graduate courses after graduating.
Since it's a government college the fees is very reasonable and affordable. Bsc Statistics honours course costed about 8-9k for 3years. Semester fees range varies with the subjects and amount of practical work.
College life here is really amazing. Had the best time with my friends. Participated in the college band and college fest(Kaleidoscope '23). Ambience is very nice. Satisfying aesthetic for good pictures
Since it is a government college the infrastructure is not upto the mark. Smart boards were not available and the benches were also not properly polished , the classes are not well maintained but the rooms are large and cool as well
I was studying Sociology hons. The quality of teaching was good but not so professional attitude was present. No curriculum was not so updated , there was no scope for internship and even the subject concerned with field study was optional and was not made mandatory.
NA. I did my bachelor's from LBC in socio hons and they donot provide any placement and there is no scope of placement here. Yes there are departments of Post graduate but I am not sure whether they provide placement or not
It was just 5000/- Yes I'm getting the brand name in return, because the college occupies the 2nd position among all the best colleges in Kolkata and that's a great thing.
It has a lush green campus full of trees and garden and which makes the temperature cool . The teachers are friendly to some extent as they are very aged and mindset was a problem. It had a very good location but floods during monsoon was a problem . The location was great.
Eco friendly environment and advance facilities available. Yes all facilities we have in clg and classroom all used and well maintained. We didn't have smart board back then but now its also available .
I have completed graduation on bengali literature for my interest in this subject . Our faculties are very supportive and provides us great quality of teaching. No my study doesn't make me job ready . But it brings excellence.
My college dies not provide placement to all students . It is a government aided college . We attain a customer service company placement And a call centers place ment , which doest not justify our qualifications.
Yes , it brings excellence.
Everything is up to the mark , we only face sanitary issues. Bathrooms are often clean.
Its over all nice and eco friendly also helpful for study.
Nope. Classrooms are okay but with no regular cleaning/dusting. Same with the labs, with the equipments/apparatus not properly maintained and few not even in position to work with. No sign of sports centres , they don't even encourage extra curriculars. Library is good. No smart boards, you shouldn't expect one in a government college. Cleanliness is a dream in our campus and the food is barely eatable.
Did BSc Physics Hons from there since I got into the so called top college of Kolkata. The quality of teaching is not that bad , mostly are helpful but exceptions definitely do exist. The curriculum is not updated at all, it doesn't make us job ready at all. It doesn't prepare us for competitive exams too.
Very very poor. None of the students got placed from our department. None of the companies are interested to come to our college. If placements are the priority or the preference of someone so one should consider not going for this college.
Around 12000 to 13000 per year is the course cost for masters in physics other courses must also charge around this much only . The worth of money I would say that it is half worth it. Didn't enjoy my college days at all.
Nothing to get excited about. No activities to get engaged in. Teachers are good, staffs are friendly. Location is not safe at all, specially since it's a girls college. Girls are always asked to go move around the campus in groups or at least with one/two friends.
Nothing else I want to add .
The college is equipped with good infrastructure and other facilities and other equipment. Classrooms and laboratories are well designed and are conducive to create a good environment to study. They are well maintained as well. The living spaces are clean and the food is hygienic too.
Having studied Economics honours at this college, I feel the faculty is one of the best in the city for Economics. The quality of teaching is great and the professors are always eager to help students with doubts.
Being a non-technical degree course oriented college, the placements are good, but not as good as that in engineering colleges, however the curriculum makes the students prepared for placements so that they get into good companies eventually.
My college have adequate infrastructure facilities. There are sufficient classroom libraries in our college. I don't know about sports centre. Hostel is available in our college. There is an availability of wi fi in our college.
The quality of teaching is very much satisfactory. Curriculum is very much updated. The syllabus is very much relevant for getting job. All the recent developments in the field are included in the curriculum.
Regarding the placement I am not sure... I think there is no placement for honours department though not sure. There is a need for development in the area of placement. Advancement of placement will lead to better job opportunities.
Per sem fee is Rs 3500. The money is worth. Per sem fee is very much worthy and is quite affordable. The per year fee is Rs 7000 which is also quite affordable. The college gives us proper guidance to all the students.
College campus is very cool and is very environmental friendly. There is enough space in the college. There are a lot of greenery in our college which makes an environmentally friendly atmosphere. ...
My experience in college is very much satisfactory. Regular online classes are held in our college. Academics wise our college is best...there cant be any negative comment regarding this. All over experience is very good.
Yes, rather laboratory equipments are very satisfying to work with. Well maintained hygiene. Central AC libraries, few classrooms and laboratories. Well maintained and sanitized laboratories. Yes living places are clean.
Teaching quality is really unique and satisfactory. Best faculty. Academic courses are mostly there so, job ready perspective is not satisfied. Yes, curriculam is updated and includes all the recent developments.
At the end of MSc or Phd, they are self placed but BSc graduates does not have placements. Mostly academic degrees are preferrable for higher studies, which our students either pursue from here or other city in India or outside.
In semester system, per semester it costs near about 4000/-.This is a Government College. As said before this is a government college but canteen facility is not under college, its a private one. Yes, its definetly worth it.
Best. In one word, our campus is EVERGREEN, with fields for sports. Many activities like different languages speaking or public speaking or curriculam activities others are there, art, dance or music which is enhanced in college fest.
Friendly envioronment. No one feel outsider here. One most important thing that is being noticed here is ANTI-RAGGING, and this not just in words, this is truly maitained. Our colleges proceeds in a well maintained decoram.
Our college has a vast campus, with over 3 buildings spanning across the whole area. The more recently constructed building of our college (famously known as the RC building) has a well maintained canteen. There's another canteen in the Science building (the oldest building on campus)where the food isn't bad but not as good as the one RC building. However rates in the latter canteen are much lower. Our college provides free wifi and has a common room for the recreational, extracurricular tasks.
The proffessors are a group of highly specialised experts in their area. Knowledge is of paramount importance here. The teaching staff is the best a college can provide. Each and every subject is divided among the members of the teaching staff to help us understand the subject elaborately.
Being a government college providing degrees on the core subjects one cannot expect to be placed on campus once a degree is gained. However higher degrees might earn a good placement. Moreover increasing prominence of our alumni in the corporate world is also improving the placements.
Being a government college the fees is extremely nominal compared to the facilities we receive. Annual fee hardly goes over 4k.
In our campus ragging is an alien word. Seniors are extremely helpful. Peer groups of all departments are very kind and friendly. Teachers interact with almost every student. Departmental freshers are the best instances of the start to a good campus life.
This college not only provided me with the important educational values on the particular subject it also gave me the best peer group I could possibly have, the kind that will stay lifelong. Our college has given us the opportunities to find talents in ourselves.
Hello aspirant,
Lady Brabourne College, with its lovely green lawns and gardens bordering the Park Circus Maidan, is one of India's best institutes for women's education. The College was founded in July 1939 by the Government of Bengal and named after Lord Brabourne's wife, who served as Governor of Bengal from February to July 1939.
The College allocated half of its seats for Muslim women and the balance for other communities such as Hindus, Parsees, Sikhs, and Jains. The hostel was reserved solely for Muslim students. Due to a lack of Muslim candidates, Lady Brabourne College began admitting Hindu pupils.
