Maria College of Engineering and Technology, Kanyakumari Admission Process

Maria College of Engineering and Technology (MCET), Kanyakumari, is an AICTE-approved engineering college that offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in engineering and management fields. The admission procedure of the college is a properly structured process that aims at selecting the deserving candidates for different undergraduate and postgraduate programs. The acceptance policy at MCET aims to give an equal opportunity to all the students thereby ensuring that the method of selection is fair and transparent. The admission cycle for MCET is generally synchronized with the academic calendar of universities in Tamil Nadu. Admission to undergraduate engineering programs is mainly on the basis of TANCET. For postgraduate admissions, TANCET scores are also considered for business administration and computer applications. The eligibility requirements differ from one program to another.

For a bachelor of engineering program, the candidate has to pass 10+2, studying Physics along with Chemistry and Mathematics as core subjects. For postgraduate courses, enrolled candidates are to have a bachelor's degree, which secures a good standing from a recognized university. The admission notifications usually contain the specific eligibility requirements which may change from course to course. TANCET stands as the forerunner of all entrance tests used for the admission process of the MCET. Consequently, this examination evaluates candidates' aptitude in subjects pertaining to their field of study. Therefore, candidates obtaining an TANCET rank are advised to work hard and equip themselves with syllabus knowledge as well as previous years question papers to enhance their admission prospects.

Application Process

The application process for Maria College of Engineering and Technology consists of multiple steps.

1. TANCET Registration: Candidates have to register for the Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test (TANCET) on the official TANCET website. Registration is essential for both undergraduate and postgraduate admissions.

2. TANCET Examination: On the notified date, the applicants are to appear in the TANCET. Depending on the program (BE, ME, MBA, or MCA), the exam format and syllabus differ.

3. Result Declaration: When results of TANCET are declared, candidates can check their scores and their rankings.

4. Application to MCET: After this, eligible candidates should apply to Maria College of Engineering and Technology. The application form is generally made available on the MCET website (http://www.mcetengg.org/) or from the college office.

5. Submission Of Documents: Candidates must submit required documents together with the application form, including:

  • TANCET score card
  • 10th and 12th standard mark sheets
  • Degree certificate and mark sheets (for postgraduate applicants)
  • Transfer certificate

  • Passport size photographs

6. Counseling Procedure: Shortlisted candidates are invited for counseling, where they will make an option for a particular course depending on the TANCET rank and availability of seat.

7. Admission Confirmation: The confirmed admission happens after full payment of fees and submission of original documents by the candidate who got allotted to the seat.

8. Orientation: Before the commencement of classes, usually, an orientation program is conducted for the admitted students, which they have to attend.

The Admission Process

For the programs leading towards a B.E. degree, several options for study are available at MCET, such as Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, and Automobile Engineering. TANCET score marks determine entry to these programs, which range from 30 to 120 seats depending on the program.

For M.E. programs available are Power System Engineering, Embedded Systems and Technology, Computer Science and Engineering, Power Electronics and Drives, Communication Systems, Structural Engineering, and Thermal Engineering. Admission is generally via TANCET with further counseling. An M.E. program offers an intake of 18-24 seats.

MCET has a large intake of 180 seats in the MBA program. The admission is based on TANCET scores and counseling. The program seeks to impart managerial and leadership skills in students.
