Shree Motilal Kanhaiyalal Fomra Institute of Technology (SMKFIT), Chennai, is a self-financing engineering technological institution under the affiliation of Anna University and approved by AICTE. The institute provides different undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses in engineering and technology. SMKFIT follows an open admission process as per the norms declared by the Tamil Nadu state government and Anna University.

For UG courses, admissions are mainly as per Common Engineering Entrance Test and Admission (CEETA-PG) conducted at state level. Qualifying examination (10+2 or equivalent) marks with inclination towards Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry are also taken into consideration by the institute. The admissions are on an academic calendar year basis, and the session tends to start around August-September.

Eligibility for UG courses is passing 10+2 or equivalent from a recognized board with Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry as mandatory subjects. For PG courses, the candidate should have passed an appropriate bachelor's degree from a recognized university.

Application Process

The application process at SMKFIT is as follows:

1. For B.E. courses:

• Appear for the CEETA-PG exam.
• Register through the Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) counselling procedure.
• Provide the requisite documents, like 10+2 mark sheets and CEETA-PG score card.
• Attend counselling sessions as per the time table made available by TNEA.
• In case of allotment of seat, attend SMKFIT for verification of documents and confirmation of admission.

2. For M.E. programmes:

• Attend GATE or TANCET exam.
• Apply through Tamil Nadu Common Admissions (TANCA) process for GATE qualifiers or Anna University process for TANCET qualifiers.
• Produce the documents like bachelor's degree certificates and marks cards of the entrance exam.
• Attend the counselling sessions as per the respective admission authorities' time table.
• If a candidate is alloted, follow the SMKFIT admission procedures.

Degree wise Admission Process

B.E. Programs:
SMKFIT provides seven B.E. courses, viz., Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Electrical & Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Artificial Intelligence and Data Science, and Information Technology. They get admitted in these courses on the basis of CEETA-PG scores and 10+2 scores. Intake is 30-60 seats based on the course.

M.E. Programs
The institute conducts five M.E. courses: VLSI Design, Computer Science & Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, and Thermal Engineering. Admissions are typically on the basis of GATE scores or state-level entrance tests such as TANCET. Intake in such courses is 9 to 18 seats.
