Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali Government Institute of Medical Science and Research (VCSGGMS & RI) in Srinagar, Uttarakhand, is a highly esteemed medical school. The institute provides various medical courses under the National Medical Commission's approval. The admission process usually starts in May-June for the August-September starting academic year. The institute offers admissions based on national-level entrance exams, namely the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for undergraduate courses and NEET-PG for postgraduate courses.

Application Process

The application procedure for VCSGGMS & RI is different for different programs:

For MBBS:

1. Register and sit for NEET-UG examination.

3. Get registered for counseling with the concerned state or central counseling body.
4. Select VCSGGMS & RI and course of preference at the time of counseling.

For MD/MS Courses:

1. Register and appear for NEET-PG test.
2. Get qualified NEET-PG by scoring the cut-off marks.
3. Register for counseling with the authorized body for postgraduate medical admission.
4. Choose VCSGGMS & RI and preferred specialization at the time of counseling.
5. If given a seat, join the institute through the admission procedure.

Degree wise Admission Process

MBBS: VCSGGMS & RI has 175 seats for its MBBS course. Admission is on the merit of the candidate through NEET-UG. Candidates should have passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as compulsory subjects. The process of selection is extremely competitive due to the fewer seats available.

MD/MS: The institution provides different postgraduate courses such as MD in Pathology, Community Medicine, Microbiology, Forensic Medicine, Pharmacology, and Physiology, and MS in Anatomy and Ophthalmology. The admission to these courses is based on NEET-PG. The seats differ according to each specialty, which range from 2 to 4 seats per course. The applicants should have done their MBBS degree to become eligible for these courses.

Diploma Courses: VCSGGMS & RI also provides diploma courses in such specialties as Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy, Ophthalmology, ENT, Pediatrics, Anesthesia, and Obstetrics and Gynecology.
