Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Chemical Engineering is an offered Full-time three/six-year Doctoral program and it is offered by the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. Ph.D. programme shall be for a minimum duration of three years, including course work and a maximum of six years. Extension beyond the above limits will be governed by the relevant clauses as stipulated in the Statute/Ordinance of the individual Institution concerned.

Area of Research: Catalyst design and synthesis; Cell membranes and soft interfaces; Computational biology; therapeutic engineering; host-pathogen interactions; and dynamics of infectious diseases; Energy storage in batteries and supercapacitors; gas hydrates; High resolution single molecule techniques to probe nanoscale biosystems; Microfluidics and soft solids; Modelling; optimization and control of bioreactors; Nanotechnology for sensors; actuators; fuel and solar cells; Polymer degradation; Reaction engineering in multifunctional and microreactors; Rheology and dynamics of powders; and suspensions of living and nonliving matter; Water remediation/ purification; activated carbon fabric.

Eligibility Criteria

BE / B Tech or equivalent degree or M Sc or equivalent degree in any branch of Science. (with Mathematics as a subject at the Bachelor’s level.) or Graduates of 4-year Bachelor of Science programmes.

Admission Details

Ph D programme candidates with ME /M Tech / M Sc(Engg) / MS / MBA (post BE / B Tech / Master’s degrees) will be short-listed for an interview for Ph D programmes based on their academic performance (including their past performance in national tests, in which they have qualified prior to their Master’s degree, and/or the number of Publications they have).

College Infrastructure

The infrastructure of the college is awesome and attractive. They provide facilities such as high-speed Wi-Fi, labs are well-equipped with sufficient systems, and new tool licenses are also given. The hostel food is not as good compared to other canteens. We have a large playground. The hostel provides basic facilities

College Infrastructure

The infrastructure of our department is not up to the mark. Labs need to be well-maintained. The college has many departments, some of which have extremely well-maintained buildings. On the contrary, some departments have been in bad condition for a long time. I think all the buildings should be maintained in the same way without bias.

IISC Bangalore has the best infratructure among the colleges in India. Being one of the oldest colleges in India, it is maintained in such a great way that it seems new. All the facilities and equipment for the conduction of research is available here.
