The University College of Science, Technology and Agriculture (UCSTA), Kolkata, is among the elite colleges under the folds of the University of Calcutta, offering undergraduate, postgraduate and doctorate programs in various science and technology-related disciplines. Admission at UCSTA is tough and merit-based. It is built to screen the best and most qualified candidates from across the country. The admission process in UCSTA generally starts in May-June for the academic year commencing in August-September. The interested candidates apply through many different national level entrance examinations based on the Program opted. As far as the undergraduate program is concerned, the admission process is based on WBJEE, whereas postgraduate admissions are granted after a relevant entrance exam such as GATE, JAM, among others.
The minimum eligibility requirement for undergraduate programs is passing 10+2 from a recognized board with Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry as compulsory subjects. Besides, there is a requirement of a minimum aggregate of 50% marks in the qualifying examination for the other courses. For a postgraduate program, candidates must have completed a bachelor's degree in the relevant discipline from a recognized university, usually obtaining a minimum of 55-60% marks or an equivalent CGPA. Importantly, the specific dates vary from program to program, as well as for the concerned entrance examination. For example, WBJEE application dates during the following academic year are going to be held from January 22, 2025, to February 23, 2025. The GATE exam will be conducted on February 1-2, 2025.

Degree Wise Admission Processes:
B.Tech: UCSTA offers 11 B.Tech programs with a total intake of 297 seats. Admission to B.Tech programs is offered through the WB-JE. All candidates shall have qualified Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry in their 10+2 and ought to take the WBJEE to be eligible.
M.Tech: The college offers a plethora of more than 15 M.Tech programs. Mainly, the admissions would be GATE-driven, followed by a written test and/or interview, subject to whatever is decided by the college. Candidates should have a B.E./B.Tech./M.Sc. or any equivalent in the relevant field. The total intake of M.Tech can be anywhere between 18-41 admissions depending on the program.
M.Sc: UCSTA has M.Sc admissions available in a number of disciplines like Physics, Chemistry Mathematics, Computer Science, and so on. Admissions are based on the eligibility of a candidate through the Joint Admission Test for M.Sc. (JAM) score. The candidates with a B.Sc degree in the relevant stream shall be able to apply.
MCA: The Master of Computer Applications program at UCSTA carries an intake of 40 seats. Entry is likely that of a relevant entrance examination, but exact information is not supplied.
PhD: The institute offers Ph.D. courses in a vast number of disciplines. Admission into such a program is dependent upon the student's performance in the Written Test and/or Interview. A Master's degree in that specific field from any university is required for eligibility. Certain departments consider GATE/UGC-NET/CSIR towards exemptions from the entrance test requirement.
