The S G V Ayurvedic Medical College is at Bailhongal, and the institution stands tall as the major Ayurvedic educational hub of Karnataka. SGV Ayurvedic Medical College maintains an entrance selection process so as to make it selective while admitting qualified students to various programs.
The major admission cycle of SGV Ayurvedic Medical College is scheduled along with the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test. Although the exact dates differ every year, NEET exams are usually held in May, and results are declared in June or July. Admission to the college is done according to the NEET scores, and the academic year generally starts in August or September.
Eligibility criteria for the flagship BAMS program: Candidates may apply if they have completed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as main subjects. The basic eligibility criterion is that candidates must get at least 50th percentile in NEET for general category students. For SC/ST/OBC candidates, it is about the 40th percentile. Candidates belonging to the category of specified disabilities, as covered in the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, must secure 45 percentile for the general category and 40 percentile for the SC/ST/OBC candidates.
Admissions are merit-based. There will be an all-India common merit list as well as state-wise merit lists based on the NEET marks. Students for the undergraduate courses are admitted solely from the two merit lists and, hence, there is merit-based admission along with fair selection.
Application Process
The application process of SGV Ayurvedic Medical College, particularly the BAMS program, is very closely associated with the NEET examination and counseling process that ensues. Here is how it is done step by step:
1. Registration and Examination: Candidates will have to make themselves registered and appear in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) conducted by the designated authority of the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine.
2. NEET Result: Once the NEET results are declared, it is checked whether you have passed at least the minimum percentile cut-off for the general category (50th percentile), SC/ST/OBC (40th percentile), and PwD in the general category (45th percentile).
3. Merit List Preparation: The college prepares an All-India common merit list and a state-wise merit list prepared on the basis of NEET scores.
4. Counseling Registration: Candidates will get an online form to fill and submit for the Counseling process. Counseling may be either State Level or Central Counseling for Ayurvedic Colleges.

6. Seat Allotment: You would be offered a seat at SGV Ayurvedic Medical College basis NEET rank, category, and seats left.
7. Fee payment-You need to pay the fees within a specified time frame after being allotted the seat so that you would have a confirmed admission.
8. Reporting to College After allotment of seat and payment of fees, report in SGV Ayurvedic Medical College with all necessary documents for final admission formalities.
Degree-wise Admission Process
BAMS: BAMS is the flagship undergraduate program offered by SGV Ayurvedic Medical College. The full-time six-year course is allowed with an intake of 60 students. The admission will be strictly on NEET merit basis. Percentile criteria, as mentioned earlier, is required to be met by candidates. Counseling based on the All-India and state-wise merit list prepared from NEET scores is involved in the selection process.
MD Swasthavritta and Yoga: This is a postgraduate program offered by the college with an approved intake of 4 students. The specifics regarding admission into the course cannot be stated. Probably, this program is done based on postgraduate entrance examinations conducted for studies on Ayurveda.
MD Kayachikitsa: Another postgraduate program with approved intake of 4 students. Admission process will be the same as other MD programs, probably including a specialized entrance exam for postgraduate Ayurvedic studies.
MD Prasuti Tantra and Strirog: This too is a postgraduate program with an approved intake of 4 students. The admission process would be the same as that of other MD Ayurvedic programs.
MD Kaumarbhritya Bala Roga: The fourth postgraduate program offered by the college, also with an approved intake of 4 students. Admission would be based on performance in relevant postgraduate entrance exams for Ayurvedic studies.
All the professors are MD qualified in their respective departments and they are described as "awesome" and "very helpful." The teaching methods used are varied and include group discussions, debates, seminars, project work and more. The curriculum is said to be relevant and well-structured, following the guidelines set by the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM)
