The minimum aggregate percentage for applicants varies from one category of people to another category of people (General/SC/ST/OBC).
MAT - Students must have completed their graduation or are on the verge of giving their final semester exam in any possible discipline. It is okay if students don’t have any kind of work-ethic experience. There is no restriction on two things - age and the number of attempts required to pass the exam. Students who are pursuing or have completed degrees in CA and CS are eligible too.
XAT - Students must hold an under-graduation degree in any probable stream or are about to complete it, that is, are in their final year of the degree. Along with Indian candidates, there are NRI applications submitted by students from abroad that completely rely on their score in an exam called GMAT. However, this same condition doesn’t apply to students appearing for XAT in Dubai and Kathmandu. Finally, there is no age bar for applications.
ATMA - The eligibility criteria is the same as the ones mentioned for the above three entrance exams. The only difference is that ATMA required the graduate student to have acquired a minimum of fifty per cent marks as an aggregate.
IMU CET - There is a strict age restriction for the exam, that is, a minimum age bar of seventeen and a maximum age bar of twenty-five. Those who are applying for a degree in the maritime course must have procured a medical fitness certificate which has to be signed by doctors who are certified or approved by the Director-General of Shipping.
There are a few prestigious entrance exams held for applicants who want a future in the shipping industry, that is, get admission in the program for Port and Shipping Management. These exams are listed below -
CAT (Common Aptitude Test) - This renowned exam, Common Aptitude Test, is conducted for students with an interest in the field of management. By clearing this tough exam, students can secure a position in some of the finest business and management schools of India like - IIMs, Indian Institute of Science, IITs, and so many more. Generally, candidates are tested on their knowledge of data interpretation skills, reasoning skills and reading or verbal skills.
MAT (Management Aptitude Test ) - This exam, Management Aptitude Test, is conducted by the supreme authority called, All India Management Association. The exam was first conducted in 1988 with a periodicity of four times every year. Initially, it wasn’t a national level examination, but it got approved as one in 2003 by MHRD.
XAT (Xavier Aptitude Test) - This exam, Xavier Aptitude Test, is a national level entrance test that if cleared, will get you admitted in one of the seven hundred business schools of India. Being organized by XLRI of Jamshedpur, the test takes place in forty-six cities of India once every year in January. It has been taking place for more than sixty years now.
ATMA (AIMS Test for Management Admissions)- This exam, ATMA, is a national level entrance exam conducted by AIMS with a periodicity of five times every year - once in February, second in May, third in June, fourth in July and fifth in December. The mode of exam is online, that is, computer-based and the courses offered upon qualification are MBA/MMS/PGDM and MCA.
IMU CET (Indian Maritime University Common Entrance Test) - This exam, IMU CET, is another national level entrance test organized by Indian Maritime University so that applicants can get admitted in under-graduation or post-graduation courses offered by the university in five of their campuses. The campuses are located in Cochin, Mumbai, Visakhapatnam, Kolkata and Chennai. The cut-offs tend to vary from course to course and from campus to campus.
