Great Lakes PGPM & PGDM 2025
ApplyAdmissions Open | Globally Recognized by AACSB (US) & AMBA (UK) | 17.3 LPA Avg. CTC for PGPM 2024 | Application Deadline: 1st Dec 2024
Hi,
While there is no clear cut comparison between the two institutes as both institutes are really good in every aspect, there lies a few distinct things about each you should know:
IIMA’s flagship program is 2 year PGDM whereas 1-year PGPX is not the flagship program of IIMA. Hence if you are comparing ISB's flagship one year MBA program with 1 year program of IIMA, it is not a logical comparison. Generally, non-flagship programs are not given that much importance as compared to the flagship program.
Although the choice is simple, If you're a fresher and looking for an MBA, you should go for IIMA. But if you have 2–3 years of experience ISB would be a better option.
Hope it helps.
Hi,
The following experience is by Risabh Baldi, a student of IIMA '13 batch.
"The interview started with the customary questions (Why MBA, Why Agribusiness Management) moving on to the achievements and ended with a rapid fire session of Mathematics.
The Customary Questions
So, why do you want to join IIM Ahmedabad?
Because I preferably want to stay in India, the fees is low as compared to the foreign institutes and there are only a few colleges for Agribusiness Management in India -IIM A being the best among them.
(I had written in the form that I had offers from other universities- totally downplayed this one. I was never in awe of IIM A but even if you are, I guess you should not show that to the interviewer )
Why Agribusiness Management?
I have studied Food Engineering for four years. I have come to realize that although I like Agri/Food sector as such but I am not that much interested in the technical aspects of it. I find it difficult to understand. Also, when I did my internship I was given an Operations project which I found much more interesting and thus....blah blah
Why an year gap?
(This was the most difficult and expected question. I took an year drop for JEE preparation after screwing up JEE
(https://www.quora.com/How-is-life-after-failing-in-the-IIT-JEE-examination/answer/Rishabh-Baldi)
.)
Because when I saw the brochure for JEE while applying, I saw Agricultural/Food Engineering and I was intrigued by it. I had a very strong intuitive feeling that I should be in this sector. I researched, found out good colleges for it and only IIT and UDCT were my options. And therefore, even though I had offers for CS/ECE, etc. I took an year drop.
He stared at me and said "I cannot believe it". I said nonchalantly, "I can't do anything to make you believe but that is the truth"
(This is by far the biggest bullshit I have pulled off ever in my life. The nonchalance to his reaction worked I guess.)
Achievements and CGPA
What is your most significant achievement till now?
(Many people screw up here. They say I was a gold-medalist in this that subject and when they are questioned on that they have already forgotten it)
I don't give that much importance to academic achievements and so I would say that being chosen to work for the most important project of the year for Cadbury in 2010 is my major achievement till date.
Tell something more about this project.
Explained in detail.
Your CGPA (68%) seems to be on the lower side. Isn't it?
No, it is not.
It is average. In my institute, percentage system is followed and the topper gets around 78%. I understood the concepts but my retention level for technical concepts was low. If I was good at engineering, I would have never come for MBA at the first place. Considering the fact that I had no interest whatsoever in engineering, I would say I have done a very good job.
I am satisfied with what I scored.
Rapid Fire Round - Mathematics
(This was a Mathematics prof which I came to know later)
Interviewer: You scored 800/800 in GRE. It seems that your Maths is very good.
Me: Yes Sir.
Interviewer: What are your favourite topics?
Me: Mmm..I like Calculus.
1. Calculus
Interviewer: Give an example of a function where ∫10f(x)dx.∫01f(x)dx. is 0 and f(x) is not equal to 0.
Me (did not remember the function): Drew a graph of y= -2x+1
Interviewer: Is this the only function?
Me: No, there can be many such functions.Whenever the area above the x-axis and the area below the x-axis is same this will be 0.Interviewer: Isn't area a scalar quantity?
Me: Nope. Vector.
2. Triangle
Interviewer: What is the sum of angles of a triangle?
Me: Interior angles or Exterior angles?
Interviewer (smiling): Interior.
Me: 180 degrees.
Interviewer: Sure?
Me: Yes
Interviewer: 100%?
Me: Yes
Interviewer: Even if it is on the surface of the earth?
Me: Yes, yes, Sir. Anywhere it is 180 degrees.
Interviewer: Draw a triangle on a ball and measure the sum of angles. It won't be 180 degrees.
Me: Obviously. Because it won't be a triangle then.
Interviewer: Why?
Me: The three sides will not be in the same plane.
Interviewer: So, how would you define a triangle?
Me: A closed figure formed by three non-parallel straight lines in the same plane.
Interviewer: Ok, good.3. Parallel Lines
Interviewer: Can there be two lines which are parallel but not intersecting?
Me (thinking that all parallel lines are not intersecting but still answered in one word): Yes.
Interviewer: Sure? Draw and show me.
(puts a pen and paper ahead)
Me: I can't. I need a scale.
(starts laughing)
Interviewer: Can there be two lines which are not parallel and not intersecting?
Me: Yes.
Interviewer: When?
Me: When they are not in the same plane. Skew lines.Interviewer: Define skew lines.
Me: I don't know the exact definition but when two lines are not in the same plane they are skew lines."
Hope it helps.
Hello ,
All the three , IIM A, B,C are the top most three IIMs in the country , even all three IIMs come under top 200 global rankings , first is the IIM A at 46th rank , IIM B at 50th ,IIM C at 79 th rank , so you get any of the three , then your future is set and you can placed any of the top companies at a very high package , so you can choose any of the three , there is no big difference in any one of them , but if you need the detailed analysis of all the IIM s like courses , fees , structure , placements and many more then please refer the links below :

Hello ,
IIM A, B,C are the top 3 B-schools in the country and even they come under the top 200 global ranking with IIM A at 46 th , IIM B at 50th , IIM C at 79 th rank . The best way to go to abroad like USA is through the consulting jobs , the companies in sector of Management Consulting like Accenture Strategy , Boston Consulting , Monitor Deloitte and many more will hire you and they will send you abroad for their work after you complete your traing , surely after your training they will ask you that in which country you want to go , and you will give them your options but the real problem is that if you have to give more than one country for your preference and they might sent you in your preferred country but this does not happen all the time as there are many competitors for USA , so it would be really tough to get there , so anything can happen .
Also direct placements are also there for abroad , but there is very less chance in getting USA , because the company might place you in any country .
So yes you can get placed but chances are very less , as in today's date , getting US work permit is also difficult .
Hope it helps ,
Thanks
Dear Aspirant ,
Yes, it is absolutely possible to do an internship in any of the IIM's . These are basically research internships under IIM professors . You can apply for summer as well as winter internship
The best part is , it is open for all and you can apply from any college /University . You can have a prior experience or you may not , you can still apply.
If you think you want to do it and are ready to do the hardwork then you should not miss this oppourtunity as this can be a career defining oppourtunity for you and will give you a great work and internship experience .
Hope this helps .
Thank you .
Hello ,
As per the percentile you have mentioned , it depend on your field from which you have applied , if you are from engineering , then surely you will not get a call from IIM-A , but if you are not from engineering then you might have a chance , because IIM A maintains the diversity of fields of students , so if you are from engineering background then the cut off is very very high like more than 99 percentile as the competition is very high and tough , and when it comes to non engineering background then the competition is comparatively less you might have a better chance for getting a call from IIM A , but for getting admission you will have to go through there selection procedure where your academics , work experience , extra curricular activities , Group discussion , Interview , and CAT score will put together and then final shortlisting will done , and after that only you can get admission .
Hope it helps ,
Thank you
Hello ,
First of all , all the the four IIM s you have mentioned are the top most B-schools in the country , but when it comes to the global ranking IIIM -A comes at top among the four with 46th rank , after that at slightly lower rank comes the IIM Bangalore with 50th rank , then comes IIM Calcutta with 79th rank , and at last is the IIM Indore whose rank is between 151-200 ranking , so overall all the four IIMs comes under the top 200 global rankings , and if we go placement wise then all the four IIMs have the best packages all over the country ,
I am sharing you a link for all the IIMs of career 360 , from which you can know about the courses , placements , facilities , reviews, and much more :

hello,
IIM a ,c are one of the best IIMs. lot of competition is there , and from a huge number of students less are selected , also weightage is given to the percentile you have secured , and not much to other things and criterias , so it is tough to get into these IIMs , even with a percentile score of 95 , you wont get into these IIMs , there are very rare chances.
so, yes because of strict and very competitive selection criteria , you might not have been selected for IIM a,c .
hope it helps.
Hello Aspirant!
Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad, has made some changes to the CAT 2021 eligibility criteria. Students with “promotion/ pass” instead of “award of marks” certificates in any of the last two years of the bachelor’s program can enter the “promotion/ pass” option in the CAT application form 2021. This change is proposed due to Covid-19 pandemic situation.
You can get whole details about the news in Careers360:
Dear Aspirant ,
We need to look into many parameters to answer this question such as infrastructure , MBA program duration ( 1 year or 2 years ) ,teaching style of the institution , student life , placements, credibility of the institution and so on. Takeaways from different MBA schools are different for each and every person .
You also need to look at the rankings and not just the B School ranking but also ranking of your preferred course be it in IIM Ahmedabad or Harvard Business School . Ranking of HBS is obviously more than IIMA at the global level but you need to look that whether the ranking of your course is also more in HBS than in IIMA , if yes then well and good if no then you can consider IIMA.
A point to note and ponder is that the recruiters of both schools are almost always same which are mostly big American Companies .
So , my last advice would be that you get admission in whichever suits you best and whichever has better oppurtunities for your course
Hope this was helpful .
Infrastructure is really great and has all the facilities that a top college should provide. All moder amenities and requirements are fulfilled and the classrooms are also equipped with modern facilities.
IIM ahmedabad is having world class infrastructure. Classrooms are very good and arrangement in class is very good for participative study and presentation. Library is very huge and having so many useful books.
The overall infrastructure of the college is good , the hostel is available for the non local students , the facilities in the hostels are also good . Good drinking water , air conditioner for the students .
