Here are some good advice to get good placement from mechanical background.

1. Add skills in your bio (that doesn't mean just write it in CV)! Refine your skills, master them. Some of the skills that are must to have to find a decent job are Communication skills (obviously in English), Imagining skills, Writing skills (that includes the knowledge of formal EMail writing too).
2. Improve your personality and attitude! Both of the things must be visible when people meet you.
3. Study hard and do extra-curricular activities! Though if you follow above all points you can get your high package job but still to be on safer side you must study well to keep you at an advantageous position.

In NIT, Delhi the fee structure is as follows

• Admission fee: Rs. 2000
• Institute fee: Rs. 14500
• Tuition fee: 0
• Group Insurance: 1000
• One time admission fee: Rs 21200
• Hostel fee: 18000
• Mess security and Hostel caution deposit (refundable): Rs. 20000

The fee details in NIT, Patna is not updated.For the academic year 2018-19 the fee for one semester was Rs. 98,700.For candidates belonging to SC category the tuition fee is wavied.The tuition fee was 62,500 so the amount need to pay is 36,200.But as said earlier this was for academic year 2018-19.For the academic year 2020-21 it may change.To check the detailed fee please check this pdf

Abhishek, in 2019 under State Quota, an All India Rank of 4531 secured a seat in CSE under OBC Category. Now this is 2019 data and cut offs change every year. For a seat in NIT Patna under OBC Category, you will need atleast 240 and above. Now this is based on previous years data. But 240 and above will put you in a decent place. Okay I'll mention the cutoffs of the previous years - The cutoff ranks . Because marks will change from year to year but what you can rely on is the ranks. So the computer science branch had cutoff around 11598 AIQ rank, civil engineering had cutoff of 16987 rank, Electrical engineering - 15493 rank, IT - 13477 rank, Mechanical - 14349, Communications Engineering - 15469 AIQ rank.

All the cutoffs that I've mentioned are of the previous year and for the general category. If you are from some reserved category then do mention in the comments so that I can provide you their cutoffs too.

Marks varies each year as level of questions and number of students vary each year. The rank required for admissions into nits in cse are

1. National Institute of Technology Nagaland, cutoff 26535

2. National Institute of Technology, Mizoram, 26401

3. National Institute of Technology, Manipur, 26160

All the data are for other state for home state it is less.

see nit jamshedpur and nit pattna both of the nits is excellent in terms of placement, infrastructure and faculty. now coming to metallurgical engineering, it is a part of mechanical engineering, and some of the syllabus has similarity with chemical engineering, however job and career view prospect, mechanical engineering is better choice then metallurgical engineering.

NIT Patna, ranked 134 by NIRF. It has very good placement records. The minimum package is 3 LPA while the average package is above 6LPA and the maximum package is 16.85L per annum in CSE. Companies like Wipro, Google, Infosys, Accenture, Microsoft prefer this college for placements.

Here I have given you a link. By comparing your gate marks for with cutoff of 2018, you can get idea about the chances of admission. You have to fill application form again even if you miss marks from cutoff by 2-3. There is still chance to get admission.
