Dear Ayush,

The obvious answer to this question will be IIT Ropar.

The following are some reasons for this

  • Connectivity-IIT Ropar is located close to chandigarh and Mohali which have their own international airports. Also, it is very well connected to Delhi, Jalandhar, amritsar, Shimla and almost all of the northern India. Location wise and connectivity wise, IIT Ropar is much better than IIT Mandi and connectivity and location of an institute matters a lot while choosing a college. (This is the main reason why people prefer Indore above Ropar)
  • Placements. The placements of the electrical department generally remains in the range of 75 to 80 percent (others prefer to go for higher studies). The avg in the Electrical department remains around 11 to 12 Lpa which is more than for Mandi. In 2016, a large number of students were offered a package of more than 20 Lpa in Amazon, De shaw, Samsung and many other companies. Also, some students were selected in ISRO.
  • Rankings - IIT Ropar was ranked as the 3rd best IIT of 2008 in the 2016 and 2017 national NIRT rankings. The following are the rankings of new IITs according to the 2017 national rankings- IIT Indore (24th), IIT Hyd (26th), IIT Ropar (32nd), IIT Mandi (37th), IIT (ISM) Dhanbad (53rd), IIT Bhubaneswar (66th), IIT BHU (70th), IIT Gandhinagar (78th), IIT Patna (83rd). Link-MHRD, National Institute Ranking framework NIRF) So according to these rankings, Ropar is better than Mandi. These rankings also show that IIT Ropar recieves a huge amount of funding for its researches and projects as compared to IIT Mandi.
  • Course Curriculum- The best part about IIT Ropar is its new curriculum. The new curriculum of IIT Ropar is based according to International Standards and is designed by experts all across the world(Just to inform, the present Director of IIT Ropar was a MIT Professor). The curriculum offers specialization to the students to pursue in different branches as well. The new curriculum provides  specialisation or minor in the field of cs, electrical, mechanical, physics, chemistry, bio medical and humanities along with the Btech degree. The new curriculum has more number of labs including Tinkering Labs. Also, the courses like Data Structures and working with Arduino as a part of a course is made compulsory for everyone. Such curriculum is one of a kind curriculum in India.
  • Campus-IIT Mandi has already shifted to its permanent campus. IIT Ropar will shift to its permanent campus in 2017. The current campus of IIT Ropar has all the necessar facilities including all the laboratories and sports facilities. So, if someone suggests that IIT Mandi has a better infra structure than Ropar then he or she does not have any idea about the campus and facilities of IIT Ropar.
  • Research and Faculty-IIT Mandi and IIT Ropar are almost similar in terms of faculty. Both of them have a similar faculty student ratio of around 1:8 which is best as compared to any other IIT. In terms of research, IIT Ropar is ahead of Mandi. Ropar recieves more funding from the government than Mandi Also, Ropar has a large no. of tie ups and collaborations with foreign universities and organisations so the number of students going for foreign internships, studies and Jobs are relatively high at Ropar.

The above 7 points will be sufficient to prove which one will be a better choice. Also, refer to the following answers for details about IIT Ropar.

Hope I have made my self clear.
Best Wishes!

Hello,

This is quite a complex situation of choosing a college.

Doing MTech in Sensors and Iot will be much better than doing power engineering.

But Iit Ropar has better placements than Iit Jodhpur.

But if you compare in detail doing mtech in sensors and Iot will be better choice as this is in trend .

The placements will be fine in the near future for Iit Jodhpur.

Best Wishes

HEY ASPIRANT,

Best of luck

IIT Ropar is a good college. But, it hasn’t shifted yet to the permanent campus. So, it might lag a lot in the campus fun that you could enjoy in older IITs. Xollege have some people for GSoC here and some very good professors and some bad professors. Its like any other IIT.

As far coding culture is concerned, it is very developed. IIT Ropar  do not enjoy the benefit of the locations that other newer IITs like Hyderabad and Indore enjoy. But,  college is also not too far from Chandigarh. So, you can obviously have fun their.

The placements of CSE for all the IITs stands the best and so it does here. Going by the statistics, IIT Hyderabad, Indore and Ropar have the best placements among all newer IITs and better than some older IITs like BHU, Guwahati. Though, placements completely depend on individual efforts. I consider IIT Ropar CSE to be equally good as CSE in older IITs and some highly performing newer IITs like Hyderabad and Indore.

IIT Gandhnagar

Doubts arising with respect to the following aspects:

  1. Pioneer batch in B Tech CSE
  2. Quality of research work being done in CS
  3. Quality/quantity of faculty
  4. Placements

CS department at IIT Gandhinagar started in more years to start a B Tech in CSE just goes onto show the kind of quality control measures IIT GN employs and the kind of standards it sets when it comes to providing world class education. Since the PhD program in CS has been running since a long time now, plenty of research is happening. Minors in CS has always been popular among UG students at IIT Gandhinagar.

The placements in coding profiles have been excellent. It boils down to the individual and the kind of profile he builds during his four years at IIT Gandhinagar.

IIT GN will provide ample opportunities and will encourage the interests of its students greatly. Making the best use of the resources and opportunities available is up to the individual.

Hello,

If you compare the branches then I would suggest you to always go for mechanical.

Also Iit Ropar is having very good placements and is reputed.

So doing mechanical from iit Ropar will be great .

But it also depends on your interest,if you are having interest in chemical engineering then you can go for iit bhu.

Best Wishes

Hello Aspirant
Your rank is pretty good . You should take admission in IIT 4 year b tech course . You shouldn't take admission in 5 year b tech + m tech dual degree .
4 year CSE b tech is best .
Thanks

hello avneet

mathematics and computing is a new branch but a branch in great demand. It is a tough branch but has a lot of scope so you will be allowed to sit in placements in cse companies for jobs of data analyst so you can definitely have a look into the syllabus of the branch and opt for computing at iit ropar

all the best

Hello

Its all depends upon you interest all iit are best.If you are interested in aerospace or chemical or cse than go for it..its totally depends on you. I suggest to go for IIT Bombay because their placement ,quality of education provided, infrastructure are best among all the IITs...

Hi,

In terms of ranking, both have same ranking.

What differs is the fee structure.

NIT Allahabad has lower fee than IIT Ropar considering the specified branches.
