Autism, which is a lifelong developmental disability, was first identified over 70 years ago.  This disease affects the way an individual relates to others and communicates with them. Autism is a spectrum condition, that is, everyone on the spectrum experiences certain difficulties that are common to all, but their condition impacts each of them in a different way. Close to 7 lakh people in the UK are on the autism spectrum, this is nearly 1 in every 100 people. Currently, there are no brain scans or blood tests that can detect autism in a person.
