What is Diabetology
Diabetology is a branch of Endocrinology that deals with Diabetes mellitus. Diabetes or diabetes mellitus is a common metabolic disease that causes a high level of blood sugar. In this chronic condition, there is an insufficient production of insulin which is responsible for moving sugar from the blood into cells. It can adversely affect various other body parts like the heart, brain, eyes and kidney. Endocrinology is an umbrella term that includes all the glands of the endocrine (hormone) system. According to the recent report produced by WHO (in 2015), over 69.2 million people in India are living with Diabetes out of which almost 36 million remain undiagnosed. Diploma in Diabetology is a Post graduate level degree lasting for one to three-years. The MBBS degree in relevant discipline from an MCI approved institute is needed have this course of study to get into diploma course.
Diploma in Diabetology will have admissions based on the Merit list of the candidate in the MBBS exam.
