What is General Surgery
General Surgery is a specialisation in medical science which focuses on surgeries being carried out mainly on the abdominal parts of a human body. In India, this specialisation is taught under the course of master of general surgery (MS in General Surgery). An MS general surgery is a three-year postgraduate program that can be pursued by students who want to become a surgeon in future. In order to study MS in general surgery, a student must have passed the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.B.S) with at least one year of the internship experience. Admissions to the course are based on entrance exams like A.I.I.M.S. and NEET.
Eligibility Criteria (UG & PG) of General Surgery
Students applying for M.S. in General Surgery must have passed their 10+2 level with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics from a recognised school in India.
Students must hold an M.B.B.S degree from an institute recognised by the Medical Council of India.
Students must have at least one-year experience of the internship.
Students must pass postgraduate entrance exams conducted by institutes and bodies with not less than 50 per cent.
