Oncology is the branch of science that deals with the diagnosing of tumours and cancer. While radiotherapy is the procedure given for cancer treatment which is similar to chemotherapy. However, both oncology and radiotherapy are interrelated to each other.
Therefore, study of oncology and radiotherapy is very important to have knowledge about cancer and how it can be treated. Especially when there is an increase in the spread of the disease, and there are fewer doctors to treat the patients.
Oncology and radiotherapy also has various job opportunities once you complete the course. Years back, there were only a few people who wanted to pursue this course, and as a result, there were fewer doctors who knew about cancer.

There are two levels of the course that you can do in both oncology and Radiotherapy. You can complete your MBBS and go for MD specialization in Oncology or Radiotherapy, or you can complete your DM in oncology and radiotherapy and do your MD in oncology and radiotherapy.
Oncology and Radiotherapy Eligibility Criteria
For DM in Oncology and Radiotherapy
The candidate to be qualified for the course of the DM in Oncology and Radiotherapy should have completed his/her + 2 in science stream from a well-recognized board.
He/she should also have completed MBBS from a recognized university or college.
For MD in Oncology and Radiotherapy
The candidate must have completed their MBBS or BDS from a well-recognized university
He/she should have the experience of 10 years of experience in practising in the field.
For joining for DM or MD in Oncology and Radiotherapy, the student has to go through the entrance exam. The most common entrance exam for both courses is NEET.
NEET – National Eligibility cum Entrance Test or NEET is an entrance exam which is conducted by NTA for students who wish to pursue undergraduate and postgraduate medical courses in government or private colleges.
AIIMS Entrance exam – another exam for you to be qualified for pursuing your DM or MD in Oncology and Radiotherapy is AIIMS entrance test.
Especially when many cancers are rare and have been developing recently and spreading among people rigorously, there have to be new treatments developed to treat such patients.
More studies have been made in the field of oncology and radiotherapy to understand these different new cancers and prepare for the treatment accordingly.

The DM and MD courses in oncology and radiotherapy are for a duration of 3 years. Almost all the major universities offer this course and the course has subjects that come under it. These are some of the subjects:
