What is Endocrinology
Our body consists of various glands; these glands secrete hormones. Hormones are chemicals that are secreted to carry out various bodily functions. The study of these glands or endocrine systems is what is called endocrinology. They diagnose and treat the various problems and diseases associated with the endocrine organs. Diabetes, Thyroid and all such ailments are treated by endocrinologists. Poor functioning or failure of the Pituitary, pancreas, ovaries, testes or adrenals is reported to an endocrinologist. If a student wishes to pursue endocrinology, they will have to do that once they finish their M.B.B.S. Endocrinology is a specialisation in the field of medicine. You could pursue this subject during your postgraduate, and also continue to gain a doctorate in this field. The student must have extensive knowledge of clinical chemistry and biochemistry. The endocrinology Master’s course is a three-year course, while the Doctorate program extends for two years.
Eligibility Criteria (UG & PG) of Endocrinology
For UG Courses
There are no courses in endocrinology at the U.G level. The students are to obtain a degree in M.B.B.S. It is a five and a half year-long course, which requires a background in Science. Students who have extensive knowledge in Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics will be able to cope up with the course well. After obtaining a bachelor’s, the students can go on to pursue endocrinology as their specialization.
For PG Courses
The student must have an M.B.B.S or any other related degree.
They should have passed their bachelor’s without having any backlogs.
A minimum of 55% is expected from the students. Colleges have varying cut-offs.
The students should have completed 10+2, with a minimum of 50% aggregate from any recognized board or institute.
They should have studied Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics.
It will be an added advantage if the students complete a year of internship.
For Doctorate
Candidates wishing to pursue a doctorate should have completed 10+2 level with a minimum of 50% from a recognized board.
The students must have completed their postgraduate specializations in the same or similar field.
Entrance exams, determine the seats. Colleges depend mostly on the entrance examination results.
Most colleges look for the NEET PG scores.
Colleges also ask the students to complete a minimum of one year of internship.
Colleges provide admissions based on a different criterion. Reservations, merit all of them play a role. Colleges even interview the final round.
Entrance Exams for Endocrinology

All India Institute of Medical Science Entrance Exam (AIIMS)- It is the entrance exam conducted for admission into the All India Institute of Medical Sciences. It is the top medical college in India.
Delhi University Entrance Exam- Delhi University conducts entrance exams for admissions into the endocrinology course.
Calicut University Medical Entrance Exam – the University of Calicut conducts its entrance exam. After passing this examination, the students are offered admission into various medical specialization programmes.
PGIMER Medical Entrance Exam- Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research conducts entrance exams for various specializations in the medical field. After obtaining a basic degree in medicine, you can pursue endocrinology.
Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research Medical Entrance Exam, University of Madras Medical Entrance Exam, Mahatma Gandhi University Medical Entrance Exam and various other entrance exams are conducted during the admission process.

To pursue MSc in Endocrinology after completing BSc you need to ensure that your BSc degree includes relevant subjects such as Biology, Biochemistry, Physiology. After that look for universities or institutions that offers MSc programs in Endocrinology. Check your eligibility criteria for MSc programs in Endocrinology for each institute before applying.
