You haven't mentioned the course in which you want admission in IIT Patna. The admission to various courses is different. Students seeking admission to undergraduate engineering courses have to JEE main and JEE advanced and after that they have to register with JOSAA for counseling.

And students seeking admission in post-graduate engineering courses have to secure a valid score in GATE and then register with COAP.

The machines, etc are old in the old departments such as mechanical, etc. However, departments like CSE and Mathematics have brand new buildings, computers, etc.  In mechanical and civil engineering branches, core placements chances are very low, but there are high chances for non-core placements.
